[Chapter Seventeen]

Elora's Point of View

When the silver moon begins to descend behind the grey clouds, Gunther squeezes my hand. I take a deep breath and nod my head; I need to do this. However, as I look over my shoulder, I see the cars and what could be freedom.

The thought of returning to the cave has my stomach tied up in knots. What happens if we meet someone who isn't as, hm, friendly, as Judas? What if I'm scratched and turned into a zombie, it's like this gang doesn't worry about these things!

Without saying anything, I let Gunther help me to my feet. He keeps one hand tightly locked around my shaking fingers.

We return to the cave and the security guard lets us enter without a second glance. Gunther leads me down the stairs and towards the bar. With each passing step, I straighten my back and omit my scared feelings.

Even though Gunther's an asshole, I know he'll protect me from the creatures down here.

We stand to the side of the bar and Gunther flags one of the witches. A woman with fiery red hair saunters across the bar and stands in front of us.

"What can I get you?" she questions.

"Actually, Antares sent me," he shouts over the music.

The woman nods her head, pointing to an empty cove beside the bar. We walk towards the cove and take a seat. I watch as the woman makes a zombie a drink before joining us.

She slouches in her seat, a bored expression playing on her face.

Gunther hands the woman a wad of cash which appears to change her expression. The woman sits up and brushes the red hair over her shoulder.

"What do you desire to know?"

"What do you know about the Colestone bloodline?"

"There are no records about a Colestone bloodline. However." The woman reaches across to grab my hand. Her eyes flutter closed and she whispers something.

Nothing happens, then her eyes open.

"What do you see?" questions Gunther.

"Danger and a curse, but I can't see anything past that. There's something blocking me from seeing it."

"Blocking?"

"There are powerful elements at hand, be careful."

"Is that all you see?" Gunther asks.

"Yes." The woman abruptly gets up and returns to the bar.

I look at Gunther and frown; was that is? I was expecting more answers from the witches, especially with the hype and mystery around it.
