"How was school today?" Mom questioned as she placed more salad into her plate. Today was Sunday, meaning a day for my whole family and friends to reunite and celebrate God for all his doings.
The table went silent as they stared at me. I knew this was going to happen the moment this reunion started. I was the oldest sibling witch kind of means that I have to set an example. It sucks really.
But it was more difficult to keep up when I wasn't exactly showing a good example. Like me going out with Benjamin Graham, the guy that my dad wasn't very fond of, or getting a best friend that wasn't exactly set on following rules.
I fake coughed, signalling for Oliver, my little brother, to answer the question. Unlike me, Oliver was the type that would ruin your date for fun, and then make sure you never have a boyfriend. But for some reason, mom thinks that he's the "good one".
" Good" oliver finally answered, mouth filled with food. I mentally high fived oliver for being my brother.
My mom nodded, satisfied and not seeming to acknowledge her son's behavior.
" what about you, olivia?"
Oh chicken balls
Once again, everyone turned their attention back to me. Geez, whats so special about me that you'd have to cut your conversation just to hear my response.
" It was great. I need to go to the bathroom" I excused myself from the table. Finally, when I was in the bathroom, I took a huge breath of relief. I never knew family could make you this uncomfortable.
I fumbled for my phone in my pocket, calling a familiar phone number.
" I either can't come to the phone, or I don't want to answer it because you're a waste of my time"
I knew that something was wrong because I knew that Ben would always answer the phone immediately. So I decided to call him again which ended with me calling him ten times.
This is when I started to get worried, so i made a mental note to stop by his house when this event was over.

I peddled my bike faster, making my way to Benjamin's house.
Soon I saw the familiar two story house. Though it looked a little different. Fluffster, Benjamin's dog, wasn't running around messing Ms. Graham's flowers. Ms. Graham wasn't yelling about how the dumb dog would keep eating her flowers that she had took time on to make. And Benjamin wasn't trying to stop fluffster from getting into more trouble.
I stopped peddling when I saw the sign that said 'For sale" printed firmly in the backyard.
I dropped my bike, running to the front door of the neighbors.
I knocked frantically, hoping that this was a cruel joke and Ben would just come out of nowhere saying " gotcha" like he usually does.
" May I help you?" A woman stood there, looking flabbergasted. I mean I don't blame her if a kid came looking like some weirdo that probably was sweating, and hair so wild it looked like she was running from the raccoons.
" um, do you happen to know what happened to the people next door?" I knew what had happened, but I didn't want to believe it. Especially when he didn't even tell me that he was moving, or better yet say goodbye.
" they moved yesterday, but I only know that there's going to be new people moving in. Sorry" the woman said sympathetically, closing the door softly.
Tears brimmed in the corner of my eyes, but I pushed them back. I slowly walked to my bike, peddling home instantly.
With shaky fingers, I called the only person who could ever know what to do in these situations.
Lydia.
She was always there for me at my worst and best. That is why she was always my best friend since kindergarten.
She was fairly short with a height of 5'0, red hair that reached to her back, with chocolaty brown eyes that makes you feel at home.
My sobs could be heard throughout the room as I hugged a pillow like my life depended on it. But then I heard someone knock rapidly.
" leave me alone, oliver!" I yelled, not in the mood to deal with my brother antics.
" oliver? Bitch open the door!"
Finally.
