Kathleen was woken up by the Cat. It had been several hours since she visited Dan and Angelo.
"How'd you get in?" She asked "Do you know where my parents are?"
He nodded and jumped off the bed. She sat up and got out of bed. She followed the Cat out into the hallway, where the mirror was. She shivered at the sight of it.
She intended to keep the memory of being thrown into that mirror in the Other World as far back into the dark abyss of her mind as humanly as possible.
But just as this thought crossed her mind, instead of her reflection in the mirror, she saw her parents and, to her great surprise, the real James Tuvera was there too.
They were all shivering ... and covered in dust and, what looked like snow. Kath looked at the image in horror.
"Mom ... D-Dad ..." She mumbled.
The image faded and she realized that she had been crying ... and she hadn't even noticed. She really missed them ... and she began to wonder who else that horrible witch had trapped in that wretched world of hers.
She heard a meowing and she looked around to see that the cat had brought the doll.
-
She watched it burn, happy that the accursed thing was gone ... and it would never trouble anyone again. She sighed as she looked at the snow-globes sitting on the mantelpiece above the fireplace.
"Looks like they're not coming back ..." She mumbled.
The Cat meowed and she looked at the little door.
"I have to go back ..." She said, sighing.
She found a small satchel in one of the still unpacked boxes in the room. She took the small stone that Dan gave her out of your pocket and glanced at it.
'Hmm ... maybe Dan and Angelo are right ... maybe it will come in handy..' She thought.
She placed it in the little satchel and made her way to the kitchen, where she thought she could find things of use. She saw a pair of pliers and placed them in the satchel.
'I could use these if I ever get stuck ... or if I need to cut something.' She thought, smiling.
She rushed upstairs and found her trusty frying pan. She smiled as she put it in the satchel ... and she put on a white builder's hard hat she found behind the sofa.
She walked back into the room with the little door, fully satisfied with her arsenal. She believed she was fully prepared. She opened the door and crawled through the tunnel, frightened of what would lie ahead.
She heard the cat sigh.
"You do know you're falling right into a trap, right?" He said.
"I know ... but I have to find my parents." Kath said.
'And ... maybe I could save the ghosts whilst I'm here.' She thought.
"Challenge her, then. She may not play fair, but she won't refuse. She has a thing for games." He said.
The cat disappeared and she came out of the tunnel. She was pulled to her feet by the Other Mother, who was wearing a black dress that made her look like a spider.
She let Kath go and smiled as a rat climbed up onto her shoulder with the key in its mouth. She took it, locked the door and put the key in her pocket.
"It's good to see you dear ... you finally returned home to us." She said.
"Cut the crap! Where are my parents?" Kath asked, determined.
"Don't be difficult dear." She said, smiling.
In the corner of her eye, she saw the Other Father, who was being dragged outside by the Other Carl.
"And where is the real Mr. Tuvera?" Kath asked, angrily.
"Oh, you heard about him vanishing? He has been a thorn in my side for some time, for you see, he snuck into my domain ... and made a nuisance of himself." She said, grinning sadistically.
Kathleen took a deep breath.
"I have a suggestion." She said.
"Oh?"
"How about we play ... a game?"
The Other Mother stood up straight and a sly smile crept onto her face.
"I heard you like them." Kath said.
"Everyone likes games ... what kind of game would it be?" She asked.
"An exploring and finding things game.." Kathleen replied.
"Oh? What would you be finding?"
"My real parents and Mr. Tuvera ... and the eyes of the ghosts you have trapped here." Kathleen said.
She raised her eyebrows.
"And what are the conditions?" She asked, folding her arms.
"If I lose ... I'll stay here forever ... I'll let you sew the buttons. And if I win, you release everyone trapped in here." Kath said determinedly.
She smiled slyly.
"Deal ..." She hissed.
"Wait a moment ... give me a clue where to find the eyes." Kath said.
"Alright ..." She sighed.
Kathleen listened dutifully.
"In each of Three Wonders I made just for you, a Ghost's eye is lost in plain sight." She said.
"And my parents?"
She just laughed, tapping her button eye with her finger nail.
"Fine ..." Kath grumbled.
Kath looked at the floor for a moment.
"It's a deal." Kath said, looking up.
But she was gone. Kath knew this was it.
"I may have lost the battle ... but I'm not gonna lose the war!" Kath said determinedly.
Kathleen sighed.
"And what did she mean ... by wonders?" Kath muttered to herself.
