That night, I had the weirdest dream.
-
I found myself in a pink gooey room. I was really confused, and trying to find my phone. When I pulled it out, I had no reception, and thirteen missed calls from my parents and Em. I accidentally dropped it, and when the phone hit the ground, it sank into the pink goo floor. I just sighed and began aimlessly walking around. Ahead of me, I seen the figure of a boy with his back facing me. He was hunched over on his knees, a red jock jacket covering him.
As I approached, I could hear soft whimpering coming from him. I reached my hand out to him, but as I did, the room shifted and he was now facing me. Laying in front of him were black and white photos of some girl curled up against the corner of a wall. I tried to get a closer look, but as I did, the boy noticed me and looked up. His face was blurry, so I couldn't make out who it was. He stood up before me and pulled out a gun, cocking it as he faced the barrel to me. Then, a dark, tall, slenderman like figure walked behind the boy. He placed his large hand on his shoulder. The boy lowered the gun for a second, then lifted it again and fired it. I felt a slight pinch in my stomach as I fell to the ground. As I lied there, I could still see the two standing over me. The slenderman figure took the gun from him and shot the boy. As the boy hit the floor, his phone fell as well and slid next to me. I pushed myself up a bit, reaching over and grabbing the phone. On it was a contact number. I began to read out the contacts name.
"Max--"-
My eyes slowly opened. I blinked and rolled them to focus. I looked over to see my alarm clock blaring and flashing the number '6:30'.
A slight sigh, I smacked the alarm clock and turned it off, then literally rolled out of my bed and hit the floor. I groaned, and pushed myself up. First, I slid on some shorts and a tank top. I grabbed my bathroom supplies and went to the dorm shower. I then undressed behind the curtains and turned on the shower, staying close to the wall until the water got warm enough. After showering, I quickly brushed my teeth, then put my hair into a thick braid behind my head. I went back to my room, got dressed, and finally left my dorm, locking the door behind me.
Still tired as hell, I wasn't paying any attention to where I was walking while on my way to class. I accidentally bumped into someone, which nearly knocked the breath out of me. I looked up to see Drew North standing before me. I stumbled a bit, brushing loose hair behind my ear.
"U-Uhm... sorry, I didn't see you.""Yeah, whatever. Just watch where you're goin'."
I nodded my head without eye contact and began to walk away. But as I did, Drew called me back.
"Uhm... Sophie?"
"Oui?-- I-I mean, yes?"
"Look. Nathan is an asshole. Alright?"
"A-alright...?"
"But you're like, a really cool person. And, man, I don't really know Nathan all that well. But I know that he's a weird kid. I don't wanna tell you what to do, but, personally I think it's a smart move to stay away from that kid."
"Thank you..."
"And, uh, sorry you had to see that yesterday. And sorry he said that shit to you. Don't let it get to you."
"It's... not a big deal. But, thanks."
And with that, we both went our separate ways.
I nearly fell asleep in chemistry. Drama and math weren't any different. But in photography, Nathan surprisingly showed up. While everyone was talking before the first bell rang, I quietly snuck over to Nathan's table. All that sat there was some random boy, and of course Nathan.
Nathan noticed me, but just sighed and turned around."Can we talk?" I asked quietly.
"I don't care what you do. But I'm not talking."
"Fine. Just listen, then... I'm... I'm sorry. I'm sorry that your father is known as this almighty asshole who towers over Arcadia and ruins people's lives. Okay? I'm sorry that people tend to not like you. But none of that is my fault, and I see no reason as to why you should take it out on me. I tried being your friend. At least I tried. I really care, alright?" I reached my hand over to his, but he snatched away.
"Whatthefuck ever!"he bursted out, jumping out of his seat "Dude, I don't give a shit about your apologizes. You don't know shit about my life, okay? So stop feeling sorry for me!" He yelled, then storming out of class. Everyone watched him leave, and once he did, they all turned to me.
I leaned back in my seat and looked down at my lap, trying not to cry.
That class couldn't have lasted any longer. It felt like I was trapped in a small room with everyone in it staring at me and judging me silently. Every time I looked up to the clock, it seemed it was going backwards. Like I was stuck here for eternity. But finally, the last bell rang. While I shoved my things in my bag, a girl who's in my Chem class walked up to me.
"That was like, totally messed up. Must've been embarrassing, him yelling at you like that." She smacked her lips. "Whatever though. I'm Victoria Chase. You're that French transfer right? That's totally cool. I love French culture.""O-oh. Yeah, it's... nice."
"Mhm! So, anyways. You wanna hang? Hey, maybe I could get you an invitation into the vortex club. Nathan likes to go there and get totally fucked up. You could, like, show up all hot and stuff and make him so jealous."
"What? P-please slow down. I'm not one hundred percent perfect with English... and--anyways, it's not like I was dating Nathan. I have no reason to make him jealous."
"Yeah, well-- but like that's the point. Make him think 'I totally could've had that ass. Too bad I was a dick.' Ya know?"
"Uhm... I don't really want him to think that. I just want to be friends."
Victoria let out a snobby chuckle. "Friends? With Nathan Prescott? That's like trying to befriend a pot of boiling water. Honestly, honey, you shouldn't even waste your time on him."
"Wait, but aren't you and Nathan friends? I could've sworn I seen you two together once after school."
"Right, but like, that's different. We talk every now and then. We aren't friends."
"Right..."
"Anyways, if you wanna hang, just find me somewhere around the dorms. I'll be around. Aurevoir!" She said in a weak French accent.
"Aurevoir..."
