Forgotten Rings // Brolby

Chapter Four

Brennen began to notice Colby's absence more and more each day.
  The first, he's just told himself that it was normal for the brunette to not pass the street as he might not have left his house that day.
    The Second, he told himself the same thing. But why for two days?
      The Third, he grew suspicious. Either he was having shit luck with spotting Colby inbetween serving, helping and speaking to fans and customers, or Colby hadn't been out for three days.
         The Fourth, he considered going round just to tap on a window and see if he was even still alive in there.
            The Fifth, Brennen had 911 on speed dial and was readying up to go to Colby's, thinking of and ruling out the worst possible outcomes. Of course, he'd need some excuse for showing up if Colby was just fine so he took a trip to the supermarket to grab some food he could cook. Isle by isle, Brennen checked for all sorts of things he could throw onto a plate to cover up the fact he thought his best friend might be dead. He got to the final isle with a basket full of bolognese items, intent on grabbing a garlic baguette just to add class to the meal to impress -maybe dead- Colby but ended up just staring at a person rifling through the cakes at the far wall.
That jumper...

Brennen set down his basket and stormed down the warmish isle, reaching the back within seconds. He tapped on the shoulder of the person he'd seen and they turned to reveal a wide-eyed and disheveled Colby Brock who immediately began slowly sliding the cakes back onto the metal shelf. Brennen just frowned and grabbed his wrist, pulling him out of the shop without buying anything.

"Oww, Bren that..hurts. Let...go already"

He couldn't care less about Colby's futile attempts to get away from his stone grip as he pulled him down the street and into the shop, slamming the door behind them.

"What's this ab-"
"Was it not good enough for you?"

Colby looked surprised when Brennen released his grip and spoke firmly.

"What do you mea-"

"The shit I gave you to eat, was it not good enough? Because you haven't been here in a while, and the second I see you after MIAing for five days you're at a store buying cakes that aren't made by me".

Brennen started tearing up a little, He didn't even know why he was upset or why he was overreacting so much.
Of course you know, you just don't want to admit it. Do you?
The next thing he knew, he was surrounded by warmth; Colby's body was glued to his at the front and his two long arms circled his shoulders.

"Just come back with me, right now. Okay?"
"Colby, are you serious? I'm trying to ask you a question"
"Just, please. Come with me"

Colby let Brennen go and he was this close to grabbing that man and pulling him tighter to his chest, but decided he'd listen for once and just do what the brunette told him to do. His hand was clasped and off they went, in the direction of Colby's house.

(I hate TimeSkipping because it doesn't look clean, I might come back and fill this in later but it's 11pm on a school night so yay memes)

"Woah, this set-up is great Colbs!"
Brennen's eyes lit up in excitement, anger forgotten. He sped from one camera to another, prop to prop until he ended up at Colby's laptop. The boy just giggled and plopped down on the bed next to him, turning it on and inputting a twelve-key password that Brennen didn't think he'd ever remember nor attempt to use.

"Ready to watch some old YouTube videos?"
He looked at Colby, sceptical of why he'd being doing such a thing now.
"Relax, we don't have to watch my ones if you don't want to"
"No it's fine, I like learning about you"
Brennen realised what he just said, feeling heat rise to his face as Colby just giggled yet again.
"Okay then, Colby Brock's channel it is"

The two spent the entire evening together, crying and laughing, hugging and singing. Truly, Brennen didn't want to end it. Especially as he'd managed to make a slight move, swinging his arm over Colby's shivering shoulders to which he got a squeaky: 'Thank you'.
But as he was escorted to the door, he knew this night wasn't going anywhere further. Not that he was disappointed by that...
Don't lie to yourself.
He grabbed his coat and slung it on, stepping out into the slight bitter air.

"Oh, you dropped this"
He turned to see his wallet on the ground, laying face open. Slightly embarrassed, he started to lean down to reach it but Colby beat him to it.
Brennen had taken notice of the thin chain running down his neck and tucking under his white shirt whilst watching the videos, curious as to what, if anything, might be hanging in the middle of it. Now that Colby was bent over at the right angle, Brennen got a clear shot of a perfectly sized golden ring swinging back and fourth because of the momentum.

That's..
But he never...

Of course he'd have a girlfriend by now.

"Bren?"
Colby had an outstretched hand with his wallet in it, which Brennen swiped quickly.
"Yeah? Uhm, yeah. I'm going now, see you later"
"Okay then, bye"
He forced a smile onto his face and turned to go down the stairs. As he reached the bottom, he heard Colby's door close and halted his movements completely to just process what he'd seen.

I'm crushing on a man in a relationship.
What the hell am I doing here with some woman's boyfriend?

He shook his head and slumped his stance. He really didn't feel like giving much effort to anything anymore, even walking back to the store. Sinking into the collar of his coat, Brennen lazily picked out the white headphones from his pocket and turned on Spotify, trying desperately to escape from the outside world. His life was such a mess.
