After I had finished packing I fell asleep. I woke up to the twins jumping up on me.
“Ah! What do you guys think your doing?”
“Sky’s taking you to his mom’s funeral?” Erin’s voice was so excited. What was so exciting about a funeral?
“Um why didn’t you tell us?” Alex’s voice was annoyed.
“Um because it’s just a funeral. Nothing else,” I mimicked her tone exactly annoying her even more.
“Sweetie when are you gunna realize he’s in love with you?” Erin went all dream-like and then howled.
“Really Lola? Ok then.” Alex decided not to push me further, crossed her arms, and walked away.
Finally they stopped and fell asleep. I was dreading the funeral Saturday. Honestly if I didn’t know how much my going with him meant to Sky I would bail but I couldn’t. The last funeral I went to had been my own mother’s and that was where I discovered I was a necromancer like my mother and her siblings. I was only eight. It was a devastating day and I had blanked out completely shielding myself from the world when I saw my mother. She was standing right next to me at the buffet table with a plate with a little of everything on it. I screamed and she turned to face me, “Oh hi sweetie,” she had said,” those cupcakes you made look delicious.” She was dead but she didn’t know it yet. I was the one who had to tell her. Dad was so proud of me but I wasn’t proud at all. I took it as a curse. Now I know better and my mother still visits me now and again, in my dreams and in reality. I knew that on Saturday Sky would need me and would be completely consumed with sadness as I had been when I had to tell my mother she was dead at her own funeral. Well at least his mom already knew.
