“Lola? Lola?” I turned my head towards the sound of Sky’s voice excited just to see his face. I waited as my vision refocused. There sat Sky, the Twins, and Jake. How did they get here? Wait where was this? This wasn’t anything like Sky’s house. I recognized the school infirmary. How in the sane heck did I get here?

“Um hi? How’d I get here?”

As usual the Twins answered together, “Sky brought you back to the school. You’re in the infirmary.”

“Oh well why am I here?”

Sky spoke this time. “Lola? You do remember you got stabbed right? And that Dirk guy reopened the bite on your neck? You needed major blood transfusions.”

“Yeah that made you sound totally awful for a while. Literally it was really unappetizing.” Everyone turned towards Jake with their eyebrows raised. He stared right back at us raising his arms, “What?”

Everyone broke into laughter while he stared back completely confused. When I laughed a shooting pain shot up my side. I gasped and clutched at it doubling over in immense pain. Then I realized the laughter had stopped. I looked up my eyes tearing to see the Twins and Jake walking out as the door shut behind them.

I turned towards Sky, “What did I do?”

“Nothing I think they were just trying to inconspicuous about giving us some privacy.” He smiled and I swear the room got brighter. I couldn’t help smiling back even though it pulled at my neck and hurt a lot. I took a closer look at his face only I could notice the hurt that lay behind those eyes, the subtle bruise like marks under his eyes, and the way he held himself slightly hunched. I reached out and cupped my hand around the side of his face sighing lightly when he leaned into my hand. He wasn’t okay even when he said he was. I figured if anyone could get him to talk it was me. So I gave it a shot.

“Sky how are you? Really?”

Now it was his turn to sigh. “I’ve just been really depressed since you know……I mean and you were in here and totally unconscious for days so I felt even more alone and I was worried about you.”

“Wait how long was I out for? I know how you feel about your mom and dad Sky I’ve been there so you can always talk to me about it okay? Don’t be worried about me I’m fine. “

“You’ve been out for almost four days Lola. And your fine now. I’ll promise I come to you about it if I need it okay?”

“Ok. And Sky?” I leaned closer to him and pulled his face to mine. Our kiss was short but undeniably sweet and again I could almost hear the fireworks. “Thank you.”

“Anytime.” This time he pulled my face to his, his touch as light a feather as if I was a porcelain doll. This time our kiss was still just as sweet and loving as the others but this one held promises and a different future than the one I had imagined. When our lip touched I felt my heart monitor go up and beep dramatically and I wasn’t sure if I ever wanted it to go back down. Whatever the change in my future was I wasn’t going to compete with it and change it because this was what I had wanted along. Sky. My Sky. As the words rang through my head I realized how true they were.
