After Tyler stormed out, Claire burst into tears.
So many emotions flooded through her; anger, fear, sadness, even desire.
Her mate was damn hot! And yet his anger and hatred toward her and her pack frightened her. What had her father done to warrant such hatred in him?
The members of her pack had been cruel when she was a child, bullying her because she was so small and weak compared to others her age. But she had never felt this kind of fear towards someone before.
While Claire was immersed in thought, she heard someone knock and enter the room and jumped in fright, turning to see who it was.
The woman who entered was dressed in black, her clothes tight and her long auburn hair pulled back from her face.
"You must be Claire, I am Mia."
"Hello", Claire spoke cautiously.
Mia sighed, "I'm sorry you've been caught up in all this. Would you like to get some fresh air?"
Claire was dubious, "I'm allowed outside?"
Mia laughed.
"Of course. Our pack is miles away from any human civilization. There is nowhere you can run that we cannot find you, and although you might not believe me, taking you prisoner was our last resort. We do not wish to harm you."
Reluctantly Claire shrugged her shoulders, "I don't understand any of this".
"Walk with me and I will explain."
Claire steeped forward, but winced in pain because of her ankle.
Mia stepped forward in alarm. "You're hurt. How bad is it?"
"Just a sprain".
Mia came in close and put Claire's arm over her shoulder and helped her walk. "You need to see a doctor, it might be broken."
"It's not that bad, it will heal. I am a fast healer."
Mia frowned. "There's no harm in getting someone to look at it. I'll take you to our healer".
As they left the chamber, Claire continued their earlier conversation.
"What on earth has my father done to your pack?" She wondered.
"Surely you must have heard. Alpha Kaiser allowed hunters onto our territory."
"What? Surely it is not true."
"I'm afraid it is. A few weeks ago some men came through shooting down birds and deer. But one of our younger wolves had strayed from his training class, and the hunters decided to shoot at him too."
"Is he okay?" Claire gasped.
"Barely" Mia growled. "And when we did some digging we found that they had received permits to hunt for game in our area. And by the department of agriculture and land conservation that your father oversees."
"Surely there must have been some mistake", Claire replied, astonished that her father might have allowed something like this to happen.
"It is unlikely. Alpha Kaiser is ruthless when other packs encroach his territory or fail to repay their debts to him. He has gained quite a reputation among our neighboring packs."
"I can't believe it... I'm sure my father would not do something to endanger the lives of another pack like that, not even rogues. No offence".
Mia sighed, "None taken. I'm sorry Claire, but maybe you do not know your father as well as you think".
