Percy's POV

I got off the coach quickly and looked around the camp. I kept looking behind me, making sure that girl wasn't following me or something weird like that, that my mind would conjure up about random people in the world. It's not that she scared me, but it was the way she kept glancing at me.

I mean, I know my NY baseball cap is awesome, but it doesn't mean it's not creepy when someone continually stares at you like that.

I decided to find my cabin, and I saw a group of kids looking at a piece of paper that was pinned to the main notice board. I walked over and saw the word 'Cabins' written in bold on the top of the piece of paper. As I looked down I realised everything else was written in cursive. I could only just pick out my name in the midst of the curls and loops.

I had no idea what the cabin was called though. The writing looked like spaghetti, something like VREGENERE. Now, unless this was some weird mutant alien camp language, I was pretty sure there was no cabin called VREGENERE.

"I can't read this" I mumbled to myself, and I was about to look around for a camp leader when a lady walked up to me.

"Are you dyslexic dear?"

I looked up at her face. She had brown hair and bright green eyes. She was wearing the blue camp shirt and her name badge said 'Em'.

"Uh yeah" I murmured pointing to my name on the board.

She glanced at it and said "Ah Percy, you're in Evergreen Cabin. The third one down at the left"

EVERGREEN.

Ohhhh.

I thanked her I walked down the path to the cabin.

I'd never been to camp before, and I started noticing small details about it, like how the floor was covered in pine needles, even though there were only four Pine trees. The whole place smelt like a wood fire and Christmas at the same time, which I thought was strange since it was the middle of Summer.

I reached my cabin and went in.

There were beds and a bathroom. I know, detailed but apart from wardrobes, there was nothing else. There were already some duffel bags on the beds, but everyone had already gone to start their activities, except for a boy who looked around my age with large square glasses. He looked up at me.

"Chip is my name" he said simply before going back to put away his duffel bag.

"Percy" I said. He didn't take any notice. Strange.

I went to go do some activities, but because I didn't know anybody, I didn't know where to go. Everywhere else was full, so I made my way to the archery ground. I suddenly saw the girl, Annabeth, that sat next to me on the coach. I thought about backing away, but I decided against it. I walked towards her as she hit bullseye on the archery range, over and over again. As she pulled the string of her bow, I tapped her on her shoulder.

I think I scared her.

Her arrow flew onto the blue section and she whirled round with her bow at my neck.

"Woah!" I shouted and backed away quickly.

"Oh My Gods, I am so sorry, I thought you were a monster!" She shouted backing away at the same time.

Gods?

"Trust me, I'm not a monster" I laughed then stopped as I remembered what my mom said.

She stepped forward again.

"I see that now" she said, then smiled.

"It's not that you look like a monster anyway!" She laughed. I smiled. Despite the fact she just insulted me, her laugh was infectious.

"I never got to introduce myself to you. Annabeth Chase." She said putting her hand out. I shook it and smiled. She stared at me like she was expecting me to say something. What was I meant to say?!

" and you are...?" She continued, looking at me with raised eyebrows.

"Oh, Percy Jackson!" I blushed feeling like an idiot.

She laughed again. She put down her bow at her feet and smiled.

" How did you learn to shoot like that?" I asked.

" I don't usually go to this summer camp. I usually got to another one where we learn archery, but I went home to sort stuff out with my Step-mom..." She trailed off and pursed her lips.

"My step-dad's a jerk, I know the feeling" I said. She smiled and stepped back to have another go at the archery board. She forgot that her bow was there and she tripped starting to fall. I grabbed her hand before she impacted and lifted her up.

"Thanks" she said as she tried to steady herself.

"No problems" I said and let go of her hand. It turns out she wasn't fully balanced and she fell to the ground again. I winced.

"Sorry!" I gasped and offered her a hand. She took it, then she pulled me down with a laugh.

"Hey!" I cried, brushing the dust off me. She continued laughing and helped me up.

She put her bow and arrows away and started to walk away.

She turned around and said "See you at capture the flag tonight Percy" with a wink and a wave, and headed to her cabin.
