Chapter-4: Gideon v/s Gideon (the truth under the hood)

"careful", Ray warned Stein who was applying his nuclear experiments on DarkFire's body to bring her around, "she's been like that for over a century, Professor; raising the temperature all of a sudden can give her a massive heart attack"

"I know- I know", Stein re-assured him for the fifth time, "I am well aware of what I am doing; though I admit Mr. Palmer, one miscalculation and she can collapse"

"Where's Gideon when we need her the most??", Ray asked impatiently, giving Rip an interrogative look.

"She is deactivated for a reason,Mr. Palmer, you may trust me in that", Rip replied as calmly as possible; though the fine lines of tension were clearly visible on his forehead. "However, let me assure you, even if you find it difficult to accept, I have full faith in both your's and Professor Stein's skills; you both shall do it fine even without having Gideon around for help"

After running several experiments for more than 11 hours, accompanied by those breath taking 'almost lost her more than once' moments, they finally managed to bring DarkFire around. She did not completely recover though. Her body was too fragile at that moment and required several more weeks to fully recover.

"You do recognise me though, right?", Rip asked her nervously

"Rip Hunter", she replied, "yes I do can recollect those memories. My brain has already finished processing the datas it received from the memory chip"

"Yes of course", said Rip, "One of the may advantages of being a cyborg having half of your brain replaced by micro-nano-computers: the ability to process information faster than ever".

DarkFire did not bother to respond to that strange complement of Rip. So, after a brief pause, he started again, "its really good to have you back, Gid' — "

"DarkFire", she sharply interrupted before Rip could even finish, "the name's DarkFire; we time masters are obliged to abandon our birth identities, surely you know that Captain Hunter!"

"Certainly", Rip obeyed with displeasure, "I shall remember that, Captain DarkFire. Is there anything else you wish me to take note of?"

"Captain Hunter", she said, "I do appreciate whatever you and your team have done so far in order to bring me back to my health. However, the way you have contaminated and attempted to manipulate my memory by misusing the chip, I find it difficult to overlook the matter as a whole. It will take time to digest all these"

Rip noded in appreciation and left the cabin along with the rest of the Legends. There was a sign of extreme disappointed on his face, while everyone else found themselves totally at a loss. Everyone, except Sara and Jax, who seemed to have already guessed her true identity; or at least almost had guessed.

"I remember that face", Sara said looking at Rip "saw her the last time Jax and I entered your mind, Rip.

"I was thinking the same", added Jax

Rip, however, was in too bad mood to explain anything.

"Spill it out Rip", Sara demanded rolling her eyes at Rip's tantrums, "I'm losing my patience"

"Captain Heidi DarkFire", Rip talked finally breaking his silence, "that's the name time masters gave her. Her real name, however, was— Gideon!"

"Ex — kee' youuuuz — me???", Jax reacted, "no wonder, in your mind Gideon's face was the same as her!!!"

"The Gideon we knew, was an artificial intellectual simply having DarkFire's memory logs installed in it", Rip explained, "however, the way our Gideon processed those memories and the way DarkFire's processing them are drastically different, as you can see. It is something I had already foreseen but refused to accept"

"So you mean, she is not just Gideon's human version but also her most unfriendly version ever!", Amaya exclaimed

"Look at the bright side", Mick interrupted, "at least Gideon's hot now"

Precap:
Rip is still having problems  adjusting with DarkFire. He is reconsidering his decision of having Gideon transformed into her human form, almost every single day. It is kind of impossible for both to survive under the same roof, now. Unfortunately though, letting DarkFire go is not an option in hand. The time pirates are still after her; and the Legends have already had enough experience handling a brainwashed rogue time master previously with Rip aligning with the Legion of Doom. They are not ready ready to go through those struggling days all over again for DarkFire. By hook or by crook, they must protect her, no matter how difficult it may seem.
