Chapter-5: waverider's under attack

Rip was still having problems adjusting with DarkFire. He is reconsidering his decision of having Gideon transformed into her human form, almost every single day. It is kind of impossible for both to survive under the same roof, now. Unfortunately though, letting DarkFire go was not an option in hand as the time pirates were still after her; and the Legends have already had enough trouble handling a brainwashed rogue time master previously with Rip aligning with the Legion of Doom. They were not ready to go through those same struggling days all over again fir DarkFire's sake. So, by hook or by crook, they must protect DarkFire no matter how difficult it may seem.

"You think its easy for me to share the same roof with you?", Rip bursted out in frustration, "if only it were not about your safety—"

"Don't act like you care about my safety", DarkFire replied heatedly

"I don't", Rip said, "but I do care for this universe. In case you didn't notice, you are the walking definition of destruction! You're a weapon Captain DarkFire and we can not afford let the rogues have you and use you to destroy our beautiful universe!"

"I can take care of myself, Captain Hunter", she siad, "I am a well trained time master, a living legend in true sense; unlike the self proclaimed legends like you and your little gang of loose cannons"

They kept arguing with each other on every single thing and the legends had already got used to their nuisance by now.

However, things started to change when Rip took a laser shot for DarkFire to ensure her safety on their last encounter with the time pirates.

"How stupid can you possibly get?", Sara outraged at Rip's actions

Rip, however, kept completely mum

"What were you thinking, Rip?", She asked again.

Rip still remained silent

"Would you speak?", She demanded furiously.

"I don't know, ok?", Rip finally broke his silence, "I honestly have no clue why I took the shot for her. I know it was stupid but I wasn't thinking anything. Trust me, it was an spontaneous act"

"Heh", Mick made a sarcastic noise, "seems Captain Heartless does have a heart after all; even cares for the foes!"

DarkFire, who was standing right infront of Rip's cabin, heard everything and could clesrly feel the heat in the air. She knew how much they all hated her; Probably Rip too. And she can't even blame them. After all, it was her who started it at the first place. But then hey, what else do you expect from a person who happens to have awaken up from a comatosed condition after spending more than hundred years frozen inside a capsule, only to learn that all her known persons are either dead or disappeared, leaving her in an unknown society at an unknown timeline, completely on her own! But it was too late to explain these to the team now. So, instead of explaining in words, she decided to reflect her sincere apologies in her behaviour by going easy on them from now on. After all, they literally placed their lives at stake to protect hers. But of course she did not completely put her guards down, though... Not yet at least.

The ship was under attack. All their weapons on the Waverider turned out to be useless in front of the over prepared former time masters' gang of pirates.

"We have tried everything", Ray warned Sara and Rip, "none of our weapons are effective against their ship"

"None but the capsule cylinder I was kept in", DarkFire whispered to Rip

"Of course", Rip remembered, "it had a built in explosive, powerful enough to take the entire headquarter of the time masters off"

The explosive was placed there to ensure that no one may succeed in their mischievous attempts of stealing DarkFire's body, which of course, the time masters considered as their greatest weapon of the century.

"Its in the cargo bay, Rip", DarkFire reminded him, "we need to open the cargo bay"

"Dr. Heywood!", Rip called out, "could you please initiate the protocol to open the cargo bay door?

"The ship is heavily damaged, Rip", Nate answered to his disappointment, "all automatic functions have collapsed"

"Someone needs to open the door manually, I see", Rip thought to himself knowing that the one who opens the door shall get killed in the process. And being the captain of the ship, the burden was on his shoulder!
