---------------------------------------------------
Tonight was the night.
Finally, all the hard work I had been putting into the last few months has accumulated to this event. I just graduated from Art school last spring and received the opportunity of a lifetime to curate a show for an event hosted by one of the big families in Korea: the Park family.
Of course, me having lived in a bubble these last four years, studying all about Art history and such, have no idea who these people are. All I know is that this event is going to be BIG. So, why I was chosen to curate the entire show is a complete mystery to me.
Nonetheless, I found out a bit about the Park family, having met with Mrs. Park, the art lover of the family, to discuss what she expected of me for this event. From what I could gather, the purpose of this event was a sort of coming of age celebration for their son who has yet to come forward publicly. Basically, all I know, is I'm there to set up a private gallery lined with fine paintings and sculptures for the attendees to visit if they are interested, which, as from what Mrs. Park told me, there will be hundreds. Like I said, opportunity of a lifetime.
The more I thought about everything, the more stressed I became. I know I have chosen a fine selection of works that fit cohesively together, while also standing out individually. They follow the style and color scheme Mrs. Park had aimed for well. Even so, I could not keep my nerves at bay.
I woke up early this morning, rushing to the exhibition space, ready to have all the finishing touches finished up before the part starts this evening at 18:00. I took a deep breath in before letting it out slowly and walking into the room. The paintings were lying about, leaning against the walls, all still wrapped up in bubble wrap having been transported from various parts of the country.
I knew everything there was to know about all of these paintings and their respective artists, I made sure of it. Any questions quests would have, I would be ready to answer. I had to show my very best side today.
I sighed as I looked around the room, my nerves escalating. I had expected at least some of the paintings to have been put up yesterday. I shook my head, trying to rid myself of the negativity. Theres nothing I can do about it now, I must work hard and get it done- I thought.
The crew wouldn't arrive until a bit later, so I started on my own. I moved around the large space, picking up the pantings and laying them where I had planned for them to hang, unwrapping them carefully to get a better look. Carefully, I laid them out one by one until I had the whole show practically laid out in front of me. I made some final switches before standing back satisfied with my arrangement.
I hung up my curatorial rationale near the front of the show as I saw Mrs. Park walk into the room. I gave her a bow.
"Good Morning Mrs. Park."
"Hello Y/N. I saw your car outside, you're very early."
"Yes ma'am, I just wanted to make sure all the paintings are hung in their proper place. Would you like to take a look at how I plan to lay them out before they are hung?" I asked, nervous about her response.
"No thank you, I trust your judgment, Y/N." She gave me a warm smile.
"Thank you Mrs. Park." I bowed once more.
