I traced my finger along the letters adorning the paper in my hand. You could tell the author of the letter was angry just by looking at their writing and the way the blue cursive words were pushed back into the paper, almost like an indent. Finally, my finger fell upon his name, written plainly at the end. My finger glided along the individual letters slowly, I'm not quite sure why, maybe I was trying to have some tangible representation of him since he left.

"Miss, is everything alright?" A voice interrupted my thoughts. I looked up from the paper as my eyes met the waitress, standing before me with a smile on her face.

I stared at her for a moment, still in my own world.

"You've been staring at that page awfully long. Can I get you another coffee?" She asked, a smile still spread across her face.

I finally snapped out of my thoughts and smiled back at her. "I'm alright, no thank you."

She nodded and walked away. I picked up my coffee cup, the last remaining coffee having gone cold by now. I finished it anyway, my eyes meeting the bottom of the cup before I placed it back down on the table.

I folded the paper back into fourths, like I had done many times before. So many, in fact, that the creases had almost become a part of the letter itself.

I stuffed it in my pocked, draping my winter coat back over my shoulders.

I took a step outside and already felt the cold wind make its way through my layers of clothes and onto my skin. I shuttered, my feet sinking into the snow. I trudged along, making my way to the bus station, leaving small footprints behind me.

I took a seat on the bench, unfortunately still having ten or so minutes before the bus to my neighborhood arrives. As I sat, I pulled out the letter once more, continuing to inspect it closely for the 100th time.

The light was dim, as it was almost dark now, my day having gone by painfully slow, even more so now that he had walked out of my life just a few days ago. My heart still hurt from the way he ended it, this letter being the only thing left of our 11 month relationship.

So he never loved me, he says. If he lied about ever loving me, I couldn't help but ask myself if everything else he ever said was a lie too. I let a few tears escape my eyes this time as I stared off into the distance at nothing in particular.
