Jace's Point of View
She was nice. Good looking, besides the pigment of her skin which was... a little disturbing. But it was as close to beautiful as I'll get. I have to stay. She can't fend herself all alone. He turns on the Radio. Good morning Southside! This is Red Radio East coming at you with the news! What a day yesterday. Shots fired from the docks. And a large investigation going on. More info on that later. Weather looks good for the week. Weather won't be on very much as we have... lost... our Weather Reporter, Daniel to an unfortunate accident... Anyways, I'll be back later for the afternoon report! What to do on this ship... There's gotta be something to do, right?
(He opens a newspaper and starts reading.)
"Now that's a story!" I said accidentally out loud. People in Pearl Harbor who all died. Caused by a mutation of RAD-4. Well, suspected. Interesting. I folded up the paper and put it in my back pocket. Then, I thought about it. What if she tries to kill me? What to do. I want her, but I can't have her. I can have her, but do I want her? Oh woe is me. How to handle the dire situation I am in. Do I pull out my gun and kill her? No, she's the only living thing I have at this point. I can't handle this. I'm going insane. I'm going insane. I'm going Insa—Jane walks into the room. She stares at me. The look of shock on her eyes. "No... You've gone pale. Do you feel okay?" I snap out of my interns conflict and say to her; "I guess. Have a little headache, that's all." I turn on the radio and Somebody That I Used To Know starts to play. I reach my hand out and we start to dance. For once in this apocalyptic hellhole I was having some fun, I was entertained. I couldn't believe it, there was finally someone I enjoyed. Too bad she's... she's... toxic-- No. She's different. I can't kill her. I couldn't forgive myself if I did. What too do, what to do. Then? I wake. I had passed out at the desk.
"What the hell... How?" My vision was mostly gone. My head was ACHING. I felt something sharp in my back. I felt super light-headed. Back into the realm of hell I go.
I was at the desk. Jars of what looked like Lemon Preserves lay beside me. I look behind me as I hear something. I reach for the G17 next to me and turn around and aim. But, they were already dead... Bite marks lay in their neck. What to do, what to do... I thought. It had to be. There's no way it couldn't be anything else.
She was infected.
She was the virus.
She was RAD-4.I woke. I was in a bed... I looked over at the barely visible clock. It was time for RRE. I turned on the radio. Good morning Southside! This is Red Radio East coming at you with the news! Earlier I reported on our Weather Reporter, Daniel, who left us a few months ago to test radio signal near the west. It has been brought to our attention he has gone missing after being reported in Pea—
The signal cut out.
I bashed the radio. As I was saying, Daniel won't be reporting with us any more. Safe to say, I've come close to finding more out about the mysterious persona of the "Curer", and will he reporting. on it shortly. More coming tomorrow morning.
I loved my job, but eventually, good things have to end. Jane walked into the room. "Heya! How are ya feeling?" She asked. "Not too good. Did you poke a needle into me?" I asked her, suspicious of the visions I had been having recently. "Huh? What are you talking about?" She chuckled, countering it with, "You're probably dehydrates. Have some water?" She pointed to the ice chest near me. I drank a bottle before saying, "Whew! A LOT better." I did feel better. But deep down I knew something was actually wrong... but I couldn't accept that. I turned on music. I didn't know the song that came on, so I turned it down to speak to her. "So, why is your skin so odd?" I chuckled, but she looked down and she started shaking. She didn't answer. I had to make this less awkward. "You know, there's a good friend of mine, he went nuts the other day. Shot up an old dock with some fri—" I noticed she didn't want to talk, so I turned the music up. "Hey, you want to dance?"
I awoke. Somewhere I hadn't been before. It looked to be an aircraft, possibly a large carrier or bomber from pre-war times. Someone woke me. "Man! Wake up! We're 2 miles from Rendezvous Destiny!" I stood and followed the man. "Load up!" He commanded me. I grabbed one of the rifles and a G17. I looked out the window, and stared down to gaze onto the streets of my hometown, Atlanta, on fire. I was shocked, I tried to wake but I couldn't. He tossed me a bag. "Strap up!" He yelled. I strapped on the mysterious pack, as he opened a door. I feared for my life. "3!" He yelled. I thought of Daniel. Everything he had stood for. "2!" I thought of Jane. Her Sub. How she cared for me and loved me. And I loved her too. "O-N-E—" He yelled. But then, something unexpected. I looked back. Someone I knew. Someone important too me. Someone I thought of as family, had fired a round through the man's chest. As he plummeted to the ground, another shot rang. This time, I was the one at the fate of this man. As I stumbled and fell back, I saw my reflection in the glossy outer of the plane. I wasn't Jace... I was...
