A few days have past since Victoria had spent the night at Dallas's house. He had been nice and friendly the entire night, he had even slept downstairs, with her, on the floor. He had pulled out two big sleeping bags and tons of blankets and pillows. They stayed up and watched two different movies out of his vast assortment of DVDs. She had fallen asleep halfway through the second movie, and didn't remember much of the rest of the night.
Victoria snapped out of her daydream and returned to the present. Had it just been a friendly gesture? Or was there something between them? Ever since that day the two had texted countless times each day, and Dallas even walked with her to the classes they shared. And she was beginning to wonder if there really was something between them.
Her friends thought that Dallas had a mega crush on her, and that was why he was being so friendly. Victoria, on the other hand, seemed to think that it was because of what she has to deal with at home. He had seen how her mother treated her, and maybe he wanted her to be away from it as much as possible and that was why he was being so nice. But one thing kept nagging at her; what her mother had said.
"If you will be dating my daughter, you have a right to know." As much as Victoria hated to admit it, the old bat was right. If she and Dallas wanted to go any further, first they had to define the relationship, then she had to tell him.
They had already made plans to hang out later that day. That would be the time she would tell him, he needed to know. Even if their friendship didn't turn into anything else, he still had a right to know. Victoria could tell that he had wanted to ask about what her mom meant that night, but he never did most likely knowing it wasn't the time or that she would tell him on her own time.
She was on her way to her locker to grab her keys and find Dallas, when she noticed a figure leaning against her locker. Getting closer she realized it was her Ex, Chad.
"What do you want Chad?" she asked not looking at him and pushing him out of the way so she could spin the lock dial. Opening her locker she still didn't look at him, even after he cleared his throat.
"I know your hanging out with Dallas." he finally said after a few moments of silence while Victoria rummaged through her locker.
She slammed her locker with keys in hand and backpack slung over her shoulder. "And...? Your not with me anymore. You don't have a say who I can, and can't be friends with Chad. You lost that right when you walked out on us." She pointed discretely to her ever growing belly. The anger showed clearly on her face.
"He's bad news, Victoria. I'm just looking out for you as a friend." His face said that what he was telling her was true, but then again it was him and she never did know. This just caused her anger to spike even more. Who was he to come and tell her things like this?
"Get this through your head Chad. We are not friends. We are not dating. You have no right to make choices in my life or tell me what to do."
She stormed away from him, but not before she heard him whisper "I'm just looking out for you two." His voice seemed to crack a bit, but she didn't want to think that he cared for her or her baby. That was setting herself up for false hope.
She shook off the anger and sadness that threatened to swallow her whole. She forced herself not to look back at him, as she walked away. That was probably the nicest thing she had ever heard him say, with or without the feelings being true behind the words. But she had to focus on what actually mattered; building something that would last with someone who loves her.
She had to find Dallas.
She had to tell him about her baby.
Tonight.
