The day had arrived. Victoria sat in one of the uncomfortable waiting chairs at the doctor's office. She still didn't think that she should be here. Sure she had been throwing up every day for the last two weeks, but that didn't mean she had some life threatening illness... did it?
She and Chad had been here for nearly forty five minutes. Of course when they got there, the nurse asked her name and date of birth. Then after a few questions, she was sent away with a pile of papers to fill out. She didn't know how to fill out the majority of the questions, but tried her hardest. That was something that a mother was supposed to help with, but she hadn't seen her mother in over a month. Which was fine with her, that just meant more time for her and Ricky to spend together without having to deal with the drunken arguments over nothing.
She sighed inwardly at this fact. Also because her behind was really starting to hurt from sitting on the hard plastic for far too long. She reached over and held Chad's hand. With her inner turmoil, she couldn't help but think that she was a failure in her mother's eyes. She couldn't answer questions for the nurse that the lady needed to do her job, and Victoria had already been pregnant once.
She sighed and looked down at her feet. Chad squeezed her hand, but she didn't look up from the floor. Why was she even here? She knew they would poke her with needles, and make her pee in that stupid tiny cup. What the hell is the point.
She could feel her anxiety levels go up as she thought about all the useless stuff that was going to happen to her, and all that it would cost. And for what? To be told that she was a perfectly healthy teenage girl?
A short round nurse called out her name, and both her and Chad rose to follow the lady.
The nurse proceeded to weigh Victoria, and take her height. Then let the two into a small examine room, which made Victoria even more anxious.
"What's the reason for your visit today?" the lady, Madie, asked while writing something down on her clipboard.
"She's been sick every morning for the past couple of weeks." Chad answered for her. Victoria shot him a glare from her perch on the examining table with the loud paper that seemed to always be on it.
"I see." The nurse said writing some more stuff down on her clip board. "Well I am going to take your blood pressure if that's okay with you." She said as she wrapped the dark blue material around Victoria's arm.
A few minutes and a lot of squeezing later, the nurse had what she needed from that equipment. Placing it back, she continued to examine Victoria with the standard procedure. Once that was over the nurse told her it was time for the cup, and then gave directions to the nearest bathroom.
Once finished, Victoria handed the nurse the cup and she left to go put it in line for testing. "I hate doing that." She said once the nurse was gone only to be responded with a chuckle from Chad.
The nurse came back, followed by a man in a coat a few moments after she left. "Time to take blood, lovely.' She said in a sing song voice as she grabbed that horrid blue box like thing. With the blue rubber tie in place, Madie wiped clean the area she needed and poked the needle through the skin.
Victoria gasped, and refused to look away from Chad, who was contently on the other side from where the blood was being taken. With four tubes of blood filled, the nurse pulled the needle out and stuck a band aid with a cotton ball on it to the poked area. Victoria groaned at the sight of the blood and looked away once more.
Madie left, and the doctor proceeded to look over what she had written on her clipboard about Victoria. He then asked a series of questions, to which she tried to answer. Chad would butt in a few times here and there, but for the most part remained silent.
"Well Victoria, let me see what your test results come back with, and I will see you in a moment." The man said as he left the room, leaving it with an uncomfortable silence. Both the teens seemed to be holding their breath for what was going to happen next.
After what seemed like hours the doctor came back in. "What is the news doc?" Chad asked standing from his seat and moving to stand next to Victoria.
"Well..... you were pregnant once, correct?" He asked. Both nodded their heads yes. "And that baby was a miscarriage?" Again they nodded their heads. "I don't know how to tell you this but...-"
Victoria felt her mind race with the questions he asked and his hesitance to tell her what was up.
"Victoria.... your pregnant."
