Y/n's PoV

It has been six years since I was taken from my home, wherever that may be. I don't remember much of those times. Here, on the Isle of Night, is my home. It's a beautiful island. High mountains stood around the north side of the island, protecting us from fierce storms. The ground was littered with caves, and the closer you were to the Star Cave, the higher your rank in society.

The Star Cave is a large cave at the peak of the highest mountain, the First Circle Hatching Mountain. The island was lush with fresh growth of all sorts and was in a warm, humid climate. One thing I remember clearly is exactly how cold it was where I was born. It was about 12 days north of hopeless and 6 degrees south after freezing to death. It was located solidly on the meridian of misery. It snowed 9 months of the year and hailed the other 3, and was cold enough to give a dragon frostbite on its spleen. Not very pretty.

But I also have good memories. My father's deep laugh, my brother's crazy ideas, and also the faintest memory of a girl a few years older than I singing a song to me. I love those memories, but I have a different family now - Cleo, Flare and Starshine. Flare was the Night Fury who took me from my first family. Starshine preformed the ritual to accept me into the Tribe, which made me her and Flares willing subject. Cleo protected me when other dragons saw me as a threat and she was also my sister. She let me ride her.

The girl from my memory started singing again, and I sung with her;

'I'll swim and sail on savage seas
With ne'er a fear of drowning
And gladly ride the waves of life
I'll make the monsters flee.
No scorching sun nor freezing cold
Will stop me on my journey,

And love me for eternity.
My dearest one, my darling dear,
Your mighty words astound me,
But I've no need for mighty deeds,
When your here to protect me.

But I would take down mighty beasts,
I'll sing you poetry,
I will keep you from all harm,
I'll make the monsters flee.

I have no need for mighty beasts,
I care not for your poetry,
I only want you here, my sister,
Here, and beside me,

To love and live, to sweetly hold,
For the dancing and the dreaming,
Through all life's sorrows and delights,
I'll keep your songs inside me.

I'll swim and sail on savage seas,
With ne'er a fear of drowning,
I'll gladly ride the waves of life,
With you here beside me.'

I'm 13 now, and I've spent almost as long as I can remember with my family. I can speak Draconic and am more wild than the wind, but I will always miss the humans. I forget names and faces, but I remember the girl singing that song every night to comfort me. I remember a boy who looked like me but completely different tinkering with toys and turning them into things, though what I don't remember is their names, or where I lived.

It was near breeding season, and all of the Furys were getting ready to head to the top of the mountains. There, the females who were of age would lay their eggs in a spot ment solely for that female's eggs and no others. Next year, Cleo would be of mating age. Once the eggs are laid, all of the Furys leave as the eggs draw storms towards them. They need to be struck by lightning to hatch, and if they don't get hit, the baby dragon will stop developing and simply sit there until it is struck by lightning.

Supposedly, the Night Furys and Skrills, which were an extinct race now, had an agreement that the Alphas' egg would be struck directly by Skrill lightning. The young Alphas were very powerful and could often
start trying to control other dragons at 5 years old when the true Alpha was still alive.

These Night Furys were fast - faster than a Flightmare - large but lithe, being able to still easily find their way around in the caves, and powerful. They had a 15 shot limit and their plasma blasts were also pure white. But this race was extinct once the Skrills were all killed. Or at least, that's how the story goes.

I shake my head, clearing it and walking up to Cleo. "Are we ready?" I asked her and checked to make sure I had a blanket and all my armour packed. "Y/n, this is the seventh time we've been over this. Today! We have everything!" she responds and knocks me over, giving a dragon chuckle.

I sigh and shake my head at her. "just you wait till I tell Mother that you're bullying me.... just you wait" I muttered and set a wood and metal mask over my face. The wood was stained black and the metal accented with a dark silver. It was made to imitate a Night Fury face. I was wearing a leather suit that had been pressed to have a dragonscale appearance and was dyed dark black. My raven hair was tied back and put up in the mask and I had a small, blind Night Fury on my back.

The parents would have sent it into the wild if I hadn't offered to care for it. It was deformed at birth. With abnormally large and strong wings, a small, disfigured body and milky white eyes, it would never had been accepted here.

It helps me fly so I don't have to ride Cleo around all day. I've had him for almost a year, I got him last breeding season when his parents left him out in the snow to die as just a hatchling. I took it back and found the parents, then offered to care for the poor thing. They were low ranking dragons in the Caste, so they didn't have enough resources to feed a dragon that wouldnt be able to do anything.

I give small physical clues as to how fast the dragon should fly and in which direction. His name is Silver as he has small silver markings all over his body and speckled under his wing and large stripes on his back. He's like the rest of me. Cleo is my dragon, but she's my sister. We care for each other but we have a deeper bond than just a dragon and rider, or, more correctly, human and rider.

"Come, let's go, Cleo, mom and dad are probably waiting for us!" I said then leapt out of the cave and off the cliff. "Y/N! Wait up!" she roared back to me and launched herself out of our cave. We flew to the cave directly above us and saw our parents waiting for us.

"Still using Silver to fly?" my mother asked and nuzzled me while our father went to greet Cleo. "of course!" I responded and chuckled.

"Anyhow, we should head to the hatching grounds before the storms come!" our father bellowed and pushed us out. Silver opened his wings and we hovered in the air on an updraft. Cleo, who had been surprised be her dad's sudden action, fell a good 30 meters before being able to right herself.

We all flew up the mountain. The cold grey stone moved beneath me as a flew. Suddenly, the mountain stopped. We were at a large plateau, and there were holes all around just large enough to keep baby dragons in. I smiled. We were here.

It had been a few hours, Cleo and I had been flying around with the other dragonfly our age and younger. We swooped and dived, raced and played, and also wondered who out of all of us would be mates. Finally, the adult dragons were done. It would be unsafe to stay here longer.

Everyone stopped by the Star Cave, where we would spend the next ten hours waiting for a storm to come. We lied down and focused in on the sounds of the wind, trying to pinpoint where the wind was.

Everyone here was family, no matter how old or young, no matter if you had a high Caste placing or not, you were needed. Silver was needed to help the Alpha's daughter fly. Cleo was needed to take care of the Tribe and be an Alpha once her parents died. The Furys who live in the sea caves keep watch over the water and make sure no one comes close.

Tonight, everyone had the night off. They waited for their eggs to hatch and nothing more. I breathed in the air, which seemed to be getting heavier. The winds had picked up and the air grew damp. The storm was coming soon.

Was it somewhat good? I've been thinking about this idea for a while now, in fact I already know a lot of the plotline and stuff.... XD I really want to update Shift but I have writers block for it and school has gotten a bit... crazy... even though it just started. Anywhore, have a good whatever time it is, BAI!
