Four Years

Chapter 12 The Confession

I wake up on the couch. How did I end up here? I fell asleep on the floor leaning against the door. "You ok man" Ian asks walking in and sitting next to me. "Not really" I reply. Ian gives me a small smile and puts a hand on my shoulder. "Why don't we go get some breakfast and you can tell me" Ian suggests. "Sounds good" I reply while getting up and walking off to change. "Oh" Ian says, "Before I forget, you should call Shauna, she is really concerned right now." "I'll call her on the way" I say.

I take a quick shower and change. We get into Ian's car and start driving to IHOP. I call Shauna and she picks up on the first ring. "What the hell Harley" Shauna says, "I was so worried." The anger in her voice disappears and she breaks out in tears. I say, "I'm so sorry Shauna, I didn't mean to worry you. I promise I'm ok and I made it home safely." "Where are you right now" Shauna asks me. "I'm with Ian right now, we are going out for breakfast. Then I'm coming home" I say. "Ok, I love you" Shauna says. I respond, "See you later." I hang up and see that we are almost there. Don't get on my case for not saying I love you back. Give me a break, you know my past. Because of that I have trust issues. I mean the first girl I loved, ripped my heart out.

We arrive at IHOP and walk in. We are given menus and order our drinks. We are currently looking at the menu. A few minutes later Ian says, "Look, you don't have to tell me unless you want to. I'm not gonna force you to. Just remember if you ever need to talk about anything, I'm here." I look up and say, "Thanks." The waitress comes over and takes our order. A few minutes later I say, "Something happened last night and I need some advice." Ian looks at me and says, "I'm listening." Just when I'm about to tell him about last night I look up and see some people walk in. Can't I ever get a break. I quickly get up and walk t the bathroom, making sure Natasha or her friends don't see me. I stay for a few minutes to make sure that I'm not spotted.

I exit the bathroom once I think that it is safe. I walk back to the table and see Ian eating. I see that Natasha and her friends are on the other end of the restaurant. I sit down and say, "I saw Natasha last night." Ian was about to take a bite, but stops when I say that. He puts the food down. I tell him about last night. Once I'm done, he asks, "What's going through your mind right now?" I answer, "That summer. When we first meet, our first kiss, when I asked her to be my girlfriend, our first date, and when she broke my heart. The text and video she sent me. How fast I fell for her and she wasn't there to catch me. How it was the best and worst summer ever. Her laugh and smile. How she was my first true love."
