Chapter six: Toriel vs Kurse a protectors trial

-Hotland-

After a while, Kurse and Frisk left Alphys's lab and headed for the core. "Whew...I forgot how freaking hot this place is." Kurse said, "I prefer Snowdin, honestly." Frisk then giggled, they found Kurse's comment rather funny. 'Snowdin is pretty.' They signed, 'But Hotland has its charms to.' "Heh, that's true." Kurse chuckled, "Now, Alphys said we needed to go through the Core, to get to the Capital..." he paused..."But she didn't say how to get to the Core in th-" Kurse cut himself off. "When we find the time..." he said, "We should head to the Ruins, there's an old friend I want to visit..." 'We could go right now.' Frisk signed, 'I'm sure mom will want to see you.' they smiled at Kurse, who was giving Frisk a grateful smile. "Thanks kid..." he said softly, "I've only met a few humans in my life...I'm glad we're friends." Frisk returned the gesture, and the two went to the hooded stranger and went to the Ruins.

-The Ruins, a few minutes later-

Frisk and Kurse arrived at the Ruins, and Kurse noticed that Frisk was very nervous. "You look nervous." Kurse observed, "I haven't felt you this tense since...since our scuffle with Undyne." 'I'm just...What am I going to say?' Frisk signed, 'I really don't know what to say.' "Hey, relax bud." Kurse reassured, "I'm sure she'll be happy to see you alive." He then went and knocked on the giant door. "Knock knock." He said, "Who's there?" "Orange." "Orange who?" "Orange you gonna open the door and greet an old pal?" When Kurse finished the doors opened, revealing a wide-eyed Toriel. "K-Kurse?" She stuttered, Kurse had the biggest smile Frisk had seen. "Toriel Dreemurr." He said happily, Toriel was smiling with tears of joy flowing down her face. "Oh, my stars, it is you Kurse!" Toriel cried, overjoyed from seeing an old friend. She and Kurse shared a hug. "It's so good to see you again Tori." Kurse said, "How long has it been? Twenty years?" Toriel nodded, then saw Frisk behind Kurse. 'H-hi mom.' They signed, Toriel then went up to Frisk and embraced them. "Thank goodness, you are still alive my child." Toriel whispered relieved, Frisk returned the embrace. "Please, come in, I just made some butterscotch pie." "Ooh boy." Kurse said excitedly, "We're in for a treat." After going inside, catching up and eating pie, Kurse asked to speak to Toriel...in private. Frisk nodded knowing what this was about. "So.." Toriel started, "What did you want to talk about K?" "Who, actually..." Kurse clarified taking a sip of his tea, "I didn't want to say anything in front of the kid...Tori we ran into Chara yesterday, they're still alive." Toriel was horrified at what Kurse just said. "What?" She said barely above a whisper, "I drove them away this time, but who knows when they'll return." Kurse said, Toriel stood up as her mother side took over. "Is Frisk alright!? They aren't hurt are they!?" She asked frantically, "Whoa relax Toriel, Frisk is just fine..." Kurse reassured the goat monster. "Thank goodness..." Toriel sighing in relief, "But I need be sure you will protect them, from Chara." "A Protectors trial!?" Kurse yelled in surprise, "But Toriel that-" he then saw the pleading look in his old friends eyes and nodded. "Alright..." he said, "I accept, but Frisk needs to be present." Frisk entered and was told to watch Kurse's trial. "Are you prepared my friend?" Toriel asked, "Ready as I'll ever be." Kurse answered, then the world turned black, as both initiated a FIGHT. Toriel launched Fireballs at Kurse, who dodged the first volley then cast Abyssal Fire. as the two attacks collided with each other the whole room glowed black and white. Magic and Dark Magic clashed as Kurse's SOUL started glowing red. 'Kurse is determined to protect you.' Frisk was...shocked to say the least. Kurse then used Dark Thunder as a bolt of black lightning struck Toriel, even though Kurse was holding back for her sake, the attack almost killed her. "Damn it!" Kurse cursed, (pun not intended...) "Tori are you okay!?" "I am fine." Toriel answered, she was then healed by Kurse. "Do you want to continue?" Kurse asked, "Yes." Was Toriel's answer, Kurse then used Abyssal Fire again. Toriel used Fireball as well, Kurse then conjured Bone Blades and Blood Spears, and sent them at Toriel. Who was forced to dodge the attacks. She then cast Flamewave. Kurse in response used Black Shield, blocking the attack. Toriel then launched Firestorm at Kurse who dodged, then went wide-eyed when he remembered who was behind him. Using his new teleport power he appeared in front of Frisk. *Boom* Kurse's hp went from 200 to 1. "That sucked..." he groaned, Toriel was shocked by her friend's actions. (He took the blow for Frisk...) she thought, then she smiled. (Well done my friend, you have passed the Protectors trial.) Kurse then restored his hp to full with Spirit healing. "Kurse." Toriel started, "Promise me...you'll keep my child safe. From Chara, from monsters who want to hurt them...even from Asgore." "I promise." Kurse replied, "It was good seeing you again Tori, take care." "Oh! Before I forget, Kurse, I believe I may have found your sister." Toriel called, Kurse froze and turned around. "You did!? Where!?" He exclaimed hopefully, "She is with a child named Monster Kid." For the first time in two centuries, Kurse was in tears...this time they were happy tears. "Oh thank God..." he whispered his voice breaking, "Auriel's alive...I always...always hoped." He turned to Toriel and hugged her. "Thank you so much, Tori." Kurse said, "That news was a huge weight off my shoulders." Toriel returned the hug. "You are very welcome K." She replied, a few minutes later Frisk and Kurse said their goodbyes to Toriel. "It was good to see her again." Kurse said, 'Yeah, it was.' Frisk signed in agreement, then Kurse stopped dead in his tracks, putting his arm in front of Frisk stopping them to. "We're not alone Frisk." Kurse warned them, then a familiar talking flower appeared in front of the two. "Howdy!" Flowey said, "I've been waiting for you guys to show up, now..." he paused, then his face changed. "Ready for round two, Kurse?" Flowey asked in a distorted voice, Kurse stepped in front of Frisk. His third eye opened and his face became more demonic. "You're gonna have a bad time..." he growled, then the two engaged in a FIGHT 'Kurse stands defiantly against Flowey.'
