Nine months. That's how long Barry Allen had been in his coma.
I sat in an office chair, spinning in circles with my knees tucked up to my chest as Caitlin and Cisco walked around, checking Barry's vitals, then recording things.
Suddenly, Cisco had turned on the radio over the speakers and began to play "Pokerface" by Lady Gaga. And rather loudly.
I stared at him, very amused, as he began to dance around the room and Caitlin took a seat on a chair next to Barry's side. She held a clipboard.
"Can't read my, can't read my, no they can't read my poker face..." Cisco sang as he headed over to look at Barry.
"Why are we listening to this?" Caitlin asked.
Cisco beamed and replied, "Its his favorite song." I snorted.
"How do you know?" Caitlin asked in disbelief.
He stepped to the side and pointed at me and said, "I have a Maddie." Caitlin rolled her eyes and Cisco relented, "It was on his Facebook page.... oh my gosh."
I stood up just in time to watch Barry bolt upright and take in a deep breath. I was too shocked to move and stared at him.
Barry squinted at Cisco and Caitlin and asked hoarsely, "Who are you? And where am I?"
"I'm Cisco Ramon, and that's Caitlin- I mean Dr. Snow." He amends when Caitlin gives him a look. "And you're in S.T.A.R. Labs, my man!"
"S.T.A.R. Labs....?" He asked, getting up. He ran his fingers through his hair and along his face and said, "I have to-"
He stopped when his eyes fell on me. I smiled at him, and I couldn't help it. I covered my mouth with my hand as tears were already clouding my vision, and he raced over to me and caught me in a tight hug. I wrapped my arms around his neck and just quietly cried into his shoulder.
"Oh my gosh, Barry." I whispered and lifted a hand to the back of his head, hugging him tighter. His arms tightened around my waist all the more.
"Mads? Why are you crying? What's wrong? What happened?" Barry asked, pulling me off of him and holding me at arms-length. His hands gently moved to my cheeks as he began to wipe my tears away.
I stared at him and he gently wiped the moisture off of my cheeks and I lifted my hands to hold his wrists as I said, "You might want to sit down, Barry. It's a lot to explain." He furrowed his eyebrows and sat down in the chair I was sitting in and rubbed his face.
"You've been in a coma for the past nine months." Cisco said and I began to wipe gently at my eyes with a tissue under my glasses. Barry reached out and took my hand and gave it a squeeze and I stiffened. Whenever someone touched me they were healed of something. Our hands began to get warm and he released my hand and looked at me.
I knew that look. It read, "I'll talk to you later".
"How did that happen?" Barry asked, furrowing his eyebrows.
"You were struck by lightning, dude." Cisco said and Barry asked,
"What?" He stood up and ended up facing a screen that showed him what he looked like now. Shirtless and with a full eight-pack.
He stared at himself, hesitatingly touching his torso in confusion, then asked uncertainly, "Lightning gave me abs...?"
I watched Caitlin approach him and she said, "Your muscles are undergoing some major changes." She began to poke and prod Barry and for some reason, that made me angry.
"Caitlin. He just woke up. Could you give it a rest?" They looked at me, and Barry smiled in embarrassment.
I picked up a sweatshirt with the Lab's symbol on it and tossed it to Barry. He caught it and pulled it over his head.
