I sat on my porch steps waiting for my boyfriend Isaiah to finish packing. Would he actually be leaving me today? Would I get to see him again? Would he even make it to Afganistan? I just sat there wondering how things would work out between us after he left for the Amy. As soon as I felt warm arms surrounding me, all those thoughts left my mind. "What are you up to sunshine?" he said as he sat down beside me. "Just thinking..." I said,....he sighed and I could tell something was wrong. "Ashley," he sighed again. "I..know that..you don't want me to leave." he stuttered. "and trust me, I don't want to leave either..." he continued "well I do, its always been my dream, but I don't want to leave you.", "Isaiah, I know its your dream, and I want you to follow it." I said, "I don't want to be the one to stop you." I finished. "So you do want me to leave?" he said sarcastically with a laugh. We sat there quietly, I was still wrapped in his arms practically almost on his lap. For a couple moments I felt no connection between us, like I was a stranger who was lost, and he was a neighbor ready to help. The awkward silence went on and on when finally I decided to ease my way out of his arms and stand up. Just as I stood up I heard a horn beep and as I looked towards the road I saw his Army Jeep there ready to pick him up. In reaction to this sight I flew into his arms,"Don't get hurt" I mumbled, "What'd you say hun?" he asked. "I'm gonna miss you." I said starting to shed tears, "Aww, don't cry baby girl. I'll be home soon." He said holding onto my arms. "Will you write me?" I asked as he wipped away my tears. "You bet I will," he said as he laughed. "and i'll call you every-other week." he promised. "When.." I started as I heard the horn beep again and one of the guy say, "Hey, Isaiah, buddy, lets go!", "Alright guys, give me a second." Isaiah shouted. "Ashley Renee Letterman" he laughed. "I Love You" he said as he leaned in, and kissed me. "Aww, Come On!" one of the guys in the jeep hollered. Then I tried to speek, but it was almost impossible. "I Love You too, Stay safe" I said. Then I saw my prince charming run down the driveway and jump into that camoflauge car that would take him away from me. What I didn't know was we would never be together again.
