one step

there's got to be something more
something after
something that makes it meaningful

i ponder
and i look down
all it would take is one step

one step
and i would find out

and i would be gone somewhere else

i turn back around
today is not the day
for that one step

no matter how easy it could be
no matter how small a step
i'll save it for later
when i need it

that one step in the corner of my mind always
and instead still i take
big steps in a different direction
just for the moment

i'll end up back there anyway
