Don't be scared, but be very very wary

I jotted that thought down with my last bit of sanity, it was slowly trickling out of my veins.

The thing was, I wasn't scared in the slightest, I felt revitalised...

They were coming back to me now, the victims, could count them on one hand.

Dean Lanson,

Tom rivale,

Nancy Smith,

She was a particularly difficult one, she writhed under my grip.

I drunkly stumbled through the woods, the dopamine gave me some sort of second battery.

The ground was crawling with centipedes, but that didn't matter.

I had to get home, I spotted the roof of my house teetering over the edge of the monumental trees, fighting for my divided attention.

I ran, as fast as my weak legs could carry me.

A rat stood in front of me, its eyes stared through me unblinkingly.

They were strangely dry, they did not shine nor glisten on any way.

It twitched its petite nose.

"Are you sure you want to go there?" It asked, "there is something waiting for you there, I wouldn't like to meet it if I was you."

"No, I have had enough of this forest, I want to go home." I answered, challenging the rat.

The rat squeaked and a few backups arrived, they stood in a straight line.

"The man in black awaits." Said one.

"To wipe the unpure slate." Stated another.

"And with one swipe at the lie." Squeaked the third.

"The one in question may die." The fourth smirked at me, if rats could smirk.

I stared blankly at the rats, although poetic, I wasn't extremely interested so I walked on.

They made no attempt to pursue me, I looked back at them, their brown fur was lit up by the luminous grey moonlight, yet still their eyes stayed dry.

I left them behind, I walked in with so much certainty I almost convinced myself that I would be okay.

I walked towards the clearing, the moonlight hit my face, highlighting my skin, the purple and red hues danced together in the soft light.

I breathed in one more breath of fresh air.

I was free.
