CHAPTER 9: Help
//"I keep getting this feeling that you're so familiar. I just want to ask; have I seen you somewhere before?//

THUMP!

A grunt sounded from behind the cloth gag in the boy’s mouth as he was dumped into another room that wasn’t any different from the first one save for the fact that there was someone else in there; a rather elderly man who surprisingly wasn’t bound in any way. He was sitting in the corner when the short burst of light hit his eyes. A moment later, he found himself staring at the seemingly partially unconscious boy on the ground.

“Hey gramps! Why not make yourself useful for once and watch this brat, will ya?” the gruff man growled and backed out of the door again before casting a last warning glance at said man. “Make sure he doesn’t get out. Or else!” he banged the door shut behind him.

His face remained grim. Casting short glance at the door again, he inched closer to the boy and slowly removed the cloth from his mouth.

“Getting into trouble with him at such a young age? Aren’t you special?” He said while watching the boy cough a little.

“Get away from me…” The man raised an entertained eyebrow after hearing how the boy sounded weak but so strong-willed at the same time. “I don’t want you anywhere near me since you’re obviously pals with that prick.” The boy continued to growl out.

He combed a hand through his grayish hair and chuckled, moving a few spaces back. “Hah, you could say that I have a connection with him. But, I am in no way his ‘pal’ as you call it. But, if you wish, I’ll back up to give you some insurance.”

The brunette got taken aback by what he heard and turned his head back, finally taking a good look at the male with him in that room for once. He narrowed his olive eyes suspiciously.

“Then why the hell aren’t you all tied up?”

“Like I said, I have a sort of connection with him. It doesn’t mean I work with him though.” When he got silence as a reply, he decided to try again, “The name’s Zackley.”

The boy coughed again and shifted, slowly pushing himself up despite his wounds. He got help from the man and soon enough, they sat facing one another with him leaning against the wall for support since he was bound. He sighed, “I’m Eren. I guess it doesn’t matter now who I tell my name to since I’m pretty much done for.” He laughed dryly, eyes surveying the room slightly.

“Eren, huh? Well, what did’ya do to get into such a big fuss? Don’t ya know who that man was?”

“You talk pretty funky for an old grandpa.” Eren scoffed as he caught up on how the man was trying to imitate a ‘modern’ speech pattern, probably to make him feel more secure, but winced soon after as the pain hit him again.

“I’m not thatold, kid.” He chuckled back, deciding to drop the question (and the imitation) since Eren apparently didn’t want to discuss about it.

They remained in a calm silence for a while. At least until Eren’s pain got the better of him, and he started grunting more frequently and shifting his body uncomfortably.  Zackley frowned at the boy and moved closer, though he paused when he felt the boy back away reflectively with an untrusting aura still lingering.

“Relax, kid. I’m not going to do anything.” He called calmly and reached over to Eren’s abdomen.  Still a little unsure, Eren just remained stiff but he didn’t back away anymore as Zackley unbuttoned his shirt to take a look at the gunshot wound.
