"What do you mean you don't have a favourite colour?"
Keith looked over at Lance from where they sat on his bed. "I don't know, with all the things going on in my life until this point, I never really had the time to pick one."
Lance gasped dramatically. "How.. dare you not have a favourite colour? That's like, one of most important questions growing up!"
The dark haired male laughed softly. "No, the most important questions for me were if I was ever going to get adopted or if I was going to like what the orphanage served me for dinner that night."
Blue bit his lip and scooted closer, wrapping his arms around Keith's waist from behind and his head on his shoulder. "I said one of the most, not the most".
Snorting, Red leaned on Lances chest. "Why don't you give me a favourite? I mean.. What's your favourite colour?"
"Blue, obviously." Lance kissed his neck for only a moment, making a shiver slither it's way down Keith's spine. "Hmmm.. What could Keefers favourite colour be.."
"It's Keith."
Lance hummed thoughtfully, dismissing Keith's words, and fussed over his messy hair. In the silence of the moment, it was nice.
Keith sighed as he looked at the wall beside them in thought. Just beyond that wall, there's millions -no, billions- of stars. An endless darkness that if you stepped out into it with no protection or helmet, you would--
"Purple!!"
Lances loud cry cut through Keith's thoughts. The black haired male turned a bewildered head towards him.
"What?"
"Purple! You're favourite colour is purple!"
For a few moments, Keith was silent. Then he said: "is this because I'm part Galra or--"
Lance let out a loud, hearty laugh. "No, no! It just seems like your kind of colour. Like the whole 'dark and broodiness' of it when it's dark, or the whole 'soft and pure' when it's light. You can be both, so I think your favourite it purple!"
Keith was about to protest, but he turned his head back towards the wall he had been staring at before and found it painting itself a vibrant, dark purple. He turned his head a few several degrees and found the ceiling, floor and bed had done the same, each a different shade.
Lance looked so happy too...
"You're right." Keith said in a soft whisper. "Purple is a beautiful colour."
Lance smiled brighter and hugged Keith from behind, his hands ever so slightly slipping up Keith's shirt to rest on his stomach.
"I could probably live in it, now that you mentioned it." Keith paused. "But why didn't you say red? Since I'm the red paladin?"
Lance paused. "Red is the colour of blood... the colour of anger, fire and rage.." He leaned his head on Keith's shoulder. "And just because you're the red paladin doesn't mean that you absolutely have to, 100%, love the colour red." His ginger absentmindedly started to draw little circles on Keith's tummy skin. "I just love the colour blue because it reminds me of home..."
Keith hummed sympathetically, putting his hand on Lances.
"Besides." Lance continued. "Purple combines the calm stability of blue, me, and the fierce energy of red, you. The color purple is often used to represent royalty." He kissed his neck. "And you are my royalty."
When Keith face turned red, it made Lance smile. "What else about it?" Keith asked softly.
"Purple also represents meanings of wealth.." Lance continued on even longer. "extravagance, creativity, wisdom, dignity, grandeur, devotion, peace, pride, mystery, independence, and magic."
"I'm not many of those things but I appreciate that you think that." The Red Paladins face was as red as his title. Lance then pressed gentle kisses to Keith's neck, making him squirm. "E-Ey- Knock that off."
"But your neck looked lonely." Lance replied. "So I'm giving it kisses so it's not anymore."
"Stop being flirty." Keith wheezed out, looking away. Lance hummed softly.
"Can't." He shrugged. "My boyfriend is too beautiful not to flirt with him."
Keith glared, unthreateningly (his red pouty face was too adorable.) "I'm going to throw you out of the airlock."
"At least give me one goodbye kiss before you do, my dear." The Blue Paladin fell back on the bed dramatically.
Without Lances hands on him, Keith focused and looked around at the room, which had painted and dyed itself various hues of the colour purple. His own purple eyes slowly looked over everything, but when he glanced back at the man behind him, all he saw was blue. He smiled warmly.
He laid with Lance and curled up close to him, his head on the males chest gently. Lance smiled, his hands fingering their way through Keith's black locks of hair.
"Hey, Keith?"
Keith looked up at him, as Lance began to recite something that Keith Haden's heard in what felt like decades.
Lances voice was soft. "You were red."
Keith smiled. "And you liked me cause I was blue." He said.
"And you touched me, suddenly I became a lilac sky." The Blue Paladins fingernails scraped over his scalp gently.
Keith purred as he said: "that's when you decided purple.."
The two smiled to themselves, as they held each other closer.
"Was the perfect colour for you."
