Lynx POV:
Lynx woke up on her ice ledge, the first pink fingers of dawn where slipping there light into Lynx's room. Her muscles where sore and her head hurt from her mothers battle training last night, Lynx felt like she was being watched the whole time she was fighting, and her mother had run her to exhaustion. Lynx wondered if her mother was ever jealous of Lynx, as she had never been ranked so high as a dragonet or an adult, and made Lynx sufferer more then she should out of her own anger.
Lynx groaned and rolled out of bed, she took a glass of cold water from where she had left it last night and drank it. Some of the throbbing in her head when't away, and after she stretched, her muscles felt a little better.
I should be getting to breakfast now, Lynx thought. Mother will be waiting.
As Lynx headed towards the dining hall, dragons bowed, ask questions and offered advice. Lynx always smiled politely, and responded to there questions, but it was a bit annoying to have a paparazzi always following her around.
When Lynx entered the dining hall, her mother rushed immanently over to her.
"There you are," she said, "I was wondering when you would show up, the queen is about to arrive, so hurry up and sit down!"
Lynx forced herself not to sigh, her mother could be very annoying sometimes, although she dared not to say anything like that out loud.
A moment later, a horn sounded and all of the talking died down. Queen Snowfall swept into the hall with two first circle guards behind her. She was only a few years older then Lynx, so she was not as huge and majestic as Glacier had been, but she raided power. You could clearly tell Snowfall was the queen by the way she walked, talked and acted. Everyone in the room bowed low to the queen and stood by there seats, waiting for the queen to allow them to sit.
"Good morning" Snowfall's voice rang out, crisp and clear. "Thank you for joing us this morning, you all have permission to sit."
As Lynx sat down, it was hard for her to remember Snowfall from a few months ago, the immature, bratty, self- centered princess. Now Snowfall was completely different and actually a likable dragon, and a excellent queen.
"As you all know," Snowfall continued, "my cousin, Prince Winter, has come to visit for a few days, I welcome you back to my kingdom."
Lynx forced herself not to look at Winter, although she could see him out of her eye, two seats away from the queen. He was sitting with Hailstorm on his left, watching the queen with a calm expression. He had a new blue sapphire earring glittering on his right ear, and a diamond on his left. Lynx remembered when they all had to wear the amber earrings when Darkstalker escaped, luckily a SeaWing animus was able to remove all the spells he did so they no longer had to have the earrings. Winter's blue eyes stayed glued to the queen, he was really handsome and...
No, Lynx thought. No dreamy thoughts for an IceWing prince who doesn't return the same feelings for you. And probably never will.
"Tundra, I would like to speak with you," Snowfall said, wrapping up her speech. "The rest of you have permission to eat."
As Lynx ate her penguin, (the chef had offered her a lynx, and Lynx had politely declined, a bit insulted.) She stole glances at Winter, who was briskly talking to Hailstorm. It was probably Lynx's imagination, but she thought he looked at her once or twice too.
After breakfast, Lynx's mother lectured her, she was going away for the day with Hailstorm and a few others for some reason, and acted like Lynx couldn't take care of herself.
