I'm sorry I haven't uploaded in a while because I've been having a bit of a writers block. (I didn't think past the first two chapters lol) but here is a new chapter to the story!
Winter POV:
Winter made his way through Snowfall's palace to see his sister. When he was gone he had forgotten just how beautiful is was. The whole palace was full of magic, from the Gift of Light to the snowflakes on the walls to the actual palace itself. Even with his terrible childhood, he had always loved growing up in the palace.
He turned to the left to go to a place he almost never went too, the dungeons.
The dungeons were only used for misbehaving IceWings, and that meant very few IceWings were in it anyway. There were only three that were in the dungeons, one of them included his sister, Icicle, who was found guilty on trial. She would have to stay in prison for five years, two for two attempted murders, and three for murder.
Icicle was awake when Winter found her. She looked healthy and strong, but not as dazzling as she did from before they went to Jade Mountain.
When Icicle saw him she growled deep in her throat. Her blue eyes pierced and scanned him. Winter wondered if she hated him or still cared about him as a brother. Maybe it was both. She was selfish, cruel and mean and would shame him all the time and call him a disappointment. But Icicle had always been around him at the Jade Academy. She didn't want to kill him when she had the chance, and when they were at the volcano, he remembered how she clung to him desperately when she had got a tranquilizer dart. She was a rotten, horrible sister, but she was his sister. He loved and cared about her, no matter what.
"So," Icicle rasped. Back from your wonderful adventures? Having fun with your stupid scavengers and your NightWings? I hope it was worth it." She said angrily. Her eyes were cold, angry and for the first time, Winter saw sadness. He wondered if it had always been there or if he was just noticing.
"Icicle," Winter said slowly,"I'm sorry"
A silence
"What?" Icicle growled
"I'm sorry," Winter mumbled. "I'm sorry that I ruined your plans and made you hate me even more and that you are like this, but you have to understand that I couldn't let you kill anyone. I'm sorry Icicle."
Icicle stared at him for a long moment. Finally, she tucked her head in and closed her eyes without saying a word.
Winter sighed.
As he left the dungeons, he thought about going back to his room for a while to sulk around when he ran into his mother.
Like Icicle, Tundra was always disappointed in him. Winter had failed her and his family so many times, losing Hailstorm, letting his father die, traveling with dragons from other tribes, and so many other things his mother yelled at him for. He sank to the floors, the cool ice making him feel cold for the first time in a long time.
Tundra looked down at him for a moment, he ice blue eyes piercing into his. She was horribly beautiful, her talons were dangerously sharp and her scales were as white as snow.
"Winter" she finally hissed. "What were you doing in the dungeons?"
Winter swallowed. "I was just visiting Icicle....... Mother," he hesitated, wondering if that word was right anymore.
"I see" Tundra said, "I was disappointed that you missed most of her trial."
Of course you were "I was busy," Winter said, letting a hit of annoyance slip into his voice. I bit his tongue.
"Building that little city of yours?" Tundra growled
Winter ducked his head, not responding.
"A true IceWing would have come to his sisters trial, a true IceWing would show up to honer his family, a true IceWing would have had the decency to accept the invitation his queen sent him, do any of those things mean anything to you anymore?" Tundra hissed at him. The room was suddenly quiet, all the quiet muttering has stopped. Dragons begin to turn and stare at the former princess yelling at her son. Winter wondered if they thought if he was a idiot for coming or a disappointment for never.
Winter finally whispered, "yes mother"
Tundra stared at him for a long time before turning around and whisking of, leaving a young IceWing alone on the ground.
