Skylynn's PoV
I looked at the map with Kurapika and Leoreo, waiting for Gon to come back from talking with the captain. Leorio said that the notice he got said to go to Zabon and he was dead set on taking the bus there. I didn't trust the buses but didn't say anything about it. Just then, Gon came running over as happy as usual.
"Guys! The captain said to head to the big cedar tree over there." He said pointing to it. I then looked on the map to see how Leorio and Gon's data matched up, which it didn't.
"Huh... That's odd..." Leorio said staring at the paper he got.
"What is?" Gon asked politly.
"Well, according to this notice I resieved, the exam is supposedly being held somewhere in Zaban city. Right now, we're here. That tree is in the opposite direction." Leorio said, pointing at each of the locations on the map.
"Perhaps you misheard him?" Kurapika asked Gon
"No, he told me to head towards that cedar tree." Gon said confidently.
"I see..." Kurapika said calmly.
"And this notice isn't any help! Where, exactly, in Zaban City are we meant to go?" Leorio said angerly.
"Our task is to find the site, using a limited amount of information. Just another test before we'll be allowed to take the Hunter Exam." Kurapika said calmly.
"Why don't we just head to the cedar tree anyways. It might help us in the long run to get there." I said calmly with my hands in my pockets.
"The captain must have had a reason to suggest that." Gon said as he started walking and I just shrugged and followed him.
"Hey, hey....You're serious? The bus to Zabon is about to leave. We should just take it. Hey!" Leorio yelled as Gon just waved at him. I put my hands in my pockets as I walked. I ignored the rest of Leorio's yelling and didn't heard what Kurapika had said in response. I just kept walking with Gon as Kurapika caught up.
"That wasn't long....." I said as I heard Leorio yell for us to wait up.
"Well, I knew you guys would be lonely without me. And it's no fun traveling alone." Leorio started after he caught up to us. "So I decided to stick with you guys a while longer." He finished, laughing. I rolled my eyes as we came to a seemingly deserted city.
"This is a bit-" I started before Leorio finished my statement with his own oppinion.
"Creepy. I don't see a single person." Leorio said
"No, there are plenty here." Gon said and I nodded. Suddenly, some doors opened and everyone, including me, went on guard as a cart with people came out into the open and most of them had masks on except for the old lady in the middle. A few even had instruments with them.
"Wh-What's with the freak show?" Leorio asked, obviously worried or intiminated.
"Exciting..." The old lady said with her eyes closed. Then her and Leorio kept saying exciting for a little bit until the old woman said something differently and loudly I might add. "Exciting two-choice quiz!" She said and I sweatdropped as the people next to her started to play their instruments.
"Why is there a quiz....." I muttered quietly to myself.
"Let me take a guess, you boys are headed for that tree on the hill, correct? To reach that tree, you must pass through this town." The old lady said calmly.
"Uh....I'm obviously not a boy-" I said and sweat dropped.
"I shall administer a single-question quiz." She continued, ignoreing my comment. She was soon cut off by Leorio.
"H-Hold on! What is going on here." Leorio said although the lady obviously ignored him.
"You'll have five seconds to state your answer. Give the wrong answer, and you're disqualified. You'll have to give up on taking this year's Hunter Exam." The old lady said
"I see...Then this is part of the Hunter Exam." Kurapika said confidently
"I see how it is. I happen to be a quiz expert. Wait. Only one question!" Leorio said, first confident as he put down his briefcase but then yelling in concern.
"Your answer will be either the number 1 or 2. Any other answer will be considered incorrect." She continued.
"Hold on! All four of us have to share one question!? So if Kurapika or Coco answer incorrectly, I'm disqualified, to?" Leorio yelled
"As if that would happen! What scares me is the high likelihood of the vice versa happening." Kurapike said with his arms crossed and looking at Leorio with an unamused look.
"Keep in mind, Leorio, that by your choices so far, you obviously aren't one to talk about other people getting something wrong." I said bordly without looking at him.
"What was that?" Leorio said, obviously angery.
"But you know...This way's easier, since only one of us needs to know the answer. I'm real bad at quizzes." Gon said happily
"I suppose..." Leorio said calmly
"Fair point." Kurapika said
"I guess." I said as I looked at the old lady.
"Hey, there. Hurry it up. Or else I'll answer the question first." Some random guy said and I realized that he was following us all along.
"Who are you?" Leorio asked.
"He's been following us since we left the port, Leorio, and pretty closely might I add." I said bordly. "Honestly, I wonder how you didn't notice him because he isn't too good at masking his presences." I finished in the same bored tone as the guy gave me somewhat of an irritated look, which I'm use to resiving by now.
"What!?" Leorio said irritatedly
"Sorry, kid. I happened to overhear his conversation." He said, referring to Gon.
"What will you do?" The old lady asked calmly.
"Go ahead and get the first question." I said to the random guy, stepping aside for him to pass by as one of the masked people walked up with a podium like thing.
"Yeah. That way we'll know what kind of question to expect." Leorio said as the guy walked ahead of us.
"I don't mind." Gon said as Leorio grabbed his briefcase and we all started to move out of the way.
"I have no objection." Kurapika said as the guy went up to the podium thing and we all now stood a few feet behind him.
"Then I'll get to it." The guy said and smirked.
"Here is your question..." The lady started as someone played the horn and the crow made a noice that sounded kinda fake. "Evil villans have captured your mother and lover. You can only save one. Select 1 for your mother, or 2 for your lover. Which will you save?" She asked and everyone but that dude seemed shocked, including myself.
"H-How is this even a quiz?" Leorio asked in shock
"The answer is 1." He said confidently.
"Oh? Why do you say that?" The old lady asked
"Because you can't replace your mother. But you can find another lover." The guy says like it was the easiest question ever.
"What?" Leorio asked.
"You may pass." The old lady says and points her thumb to where the cart came out of.
"What?" Leorio says again which causes me to think that is the only word that he knows.
"You just have to tell the old lady what she wants to hear. Adios." He says to us as he starts to go forward.
"Hey, now! That's all bull! How was that the right answer!?" Leorio said and that started to get me thinking "We're supposed to give the answer the old lady wants!? And that's considered correct? Hey, say something!" He continued as the bird made it's fake sounding crow sound again. "I won't put up with this sham. I'll find a different route." He said and turned around to walk away.
"It's too late." The old lady says and stops Leorio in his tracks, making him turn around. "Refuse to take the quiz, and you're disqualified." She continued and I watched Leorio get angry.
"Th-That's just ridiculous! Different people would expect different answers! There is no right answer!" Leorio yelled and I roll my eyes, knowing that he thinks he is correct. The answer was so obvious that it was annoying. Kurapika then gasped and I smirked, knowing that he got it.
"No right answer...I see!" Kurapika said quietly before turning quickly to Leorio. "Leorio!" He yelled before he was interrupted.
"Wait!" The old lady said and I opened my mouth to speak but was interrupted as well. "Not another word from either of you. Say anything but the answer, and you're immediately disqualified." She said and my gaw dropped. "You two better get this...It's so simple...." I thought and looked up at Kurapika, seeing that he had the same reaction as me.
"Here is your question...Your son and daughter have been kidnapped. You can only rescue one. Select 1 for your son, or 2 for your daughter. Which will you rescue?" She asked and I looked at Leorio, who was fuming with anger. I watched him grab a board leaning against a nearby building and start swinging it around as the lady started to count down from 5. "Don't do it Leorio....." I thought as the lady got to 1. I reached back subtly towards the side of my backpack that has my staff condensed to a small almost stick.
"Buzz. Time's up." The old lady said and right when she said that, Leorio jumped up to attack her. I then quickly pulled out my staff and flicked it, making it go to it's full length as me and Kurapika rushed infront of the lady. Kurapika got infront of Leorio first and held his weapon up to block the board Leorio tried to use. I was holding his body back with my staff, trying not to hurt him too much.
"Don't stop me you two! I won't be satisfied until I've taught this hag a lesson!" Leorio yelled as Kurapika pushed the board up. This cued me to swing my staff up and hit the board out of Leorio's hands.
"Calm down, Leorio!" Kurapika
"How am I supposed to calm down!?" Leorio yelled in Kurapika's face.
"You'll waste our correct response!" Kurapika yelled in Leorio's face, causing him to back up in shock.
"Correct response?" Leorio said in shock.
"We gave the right answer." Kurapika said simply and I nodded as I condensed my staff with an irk mark.
"Silence was the correct answer you idiot!" I said and huffed as I put my staff back into my backpack.
"Silence? What do you mean..." Leorio said, obviously confused.
"You hit the nail on the head." Kurapika said calmly.
"There is no right answer!" Leorio yelled, obviously irritated and confused.
"That's exactly it!" I said before Kurapika stopped me from yelling at him.
"This quiz had no right answer. However, we could only state 1 or 2 as the answer." Kurapika said calmly.
"Basically, we weren't suppose to respond at all you id-" I said and Kurapika covered my mouth.
"Silence was the only response." Kurapika said and removed his hand from my mouth.
"But what about that other guy?" Leorio said in shock.
"They didn't say he ha-" I started in an angry tone before Kurapika covered my mouth and gave me a look before looking at Leorio and continuing.
"They never said he gave the right answer. She only said, 'You may pass.' In other words, this path is the wrong path. Am I right?" Kurapika said calmly and removed his hand from my mouth as I huffed and fixed my jacket again.
"Percisely. The correct path is over here. This leads directly to the tree. Walk two hours, and you'll reach the top." The old lady says and walks to where the cart came out of.
"Oh, so that's whay this was about..." Leorio said calmly.
"A couple lives in the cabin beneath that tree. They serve as Navigators. If you meet their standards, I believe that they will guide you to the exam site." The old lady said and faced us.
"Gran, I'm sorry for my rudeness." Leorio said and bowed slightly.
"About time..." I thought anx glared at him a bit.
"Don't be. I don't mind. I do this job because I enjoy meeting people like you." The old lady said and seemed happy about it, causing me to smile gently.
"Huh?" Leorio said in confusion.
"Do your best to become a good Hunter." She said and Leorio lightened up a lot. Suddenly Gon sighed and sat on the ground.
"It's no use. I can't think of an answer." Gon said and me, Leorio and Kurapika started laughing a bit, Leorio more so than me and Kurapika.
"You were still trying to find an answer? You can stop." Leorio said
"Huh? Why?" Gon asked in confusion
"The quiz is over." Kurapika said
"I know. But...But you know...What if I run into a situation like that and I can only save one person...What should I do then? It wouldn't be right to choose just one...But one day, I might have to make that choice." Gon said and we all stayes silent.
"That is true. But there are so many factors that play in...your skill level, their skill level, who's with you, who has them, which is closer, what the circumstances are, etcetera." I thought as I bounced a bit to get my backpack further onto my shoulders and started to walk into the tunnel with the other twoAN: Holy wow it's been a while since I posted a chapter and I'm so so so so sorry about that but school became too much and I never got the chance to watch HxH again to be able to make this as accurate as possible. I'll try to do this more and yes, these are all gonna be around 2,000 words because there is a lot of dialogue and stuff.
