"Life is inherently risky. There is only one big risk you should avoid at all costs, and that is the risk of doing nothing." - Denis Waitley

I slide on my black headphones and scroll through my list on my phone. When I see Cold by Maroon 5 I listen to it. I walk to the beat on my way to my part-time job. When I open the door to my workplace I automatically smell the sweet smell of cookies and cake. Mmm. Smells good. I lay my stuff in the chair I usually sit it in and go grab my outfit and change in the changing room. I work at a bakery and I enjoy my time here. I'm friends with everyone and have the nicest time here. Oh yea, did I mention I have a good time here?

Ding! Ding!
I feel a tap on my shoulder and turn around to see Parker behind me.
"Order number 12 wants a oatmeal cookie and a small slice of chocolate fudge." He says in his sexy male voice. Why is he so sexy without trying?
"C-coming up!" I stiffen and salute to him and he just laughs at me. Idiot! Why do you act that way around him?!
When he turns around I heave a sigh and bake the cookies and cut a peice of the fudge.

"Order 12!" I yell and a curly blonde grabs the tray. Oh great. Veronica. Aka the snake.
"Hey, Quinn. Always wearing bags as usual, I see. You know you're never going to be noticed by Parker." She says in a hushed tone leaning in on me. She takes her water and accidentally spills it on me.
"Whoops! Sorry. It looks like you needed a bath anyways with all that flour on your face." She says and strides off. Stay calm Quinn. Stay calm.

Veronica has always been out to get me since she heard that I'm working at the same place as Parker. And as of course, she knows I like Parker. This isn't highschool anymore. You shouldn't let her push you around anymore.

My shift ends and I head out.
"Bye Quinn." Melanie says.
"Bye." I say and head out the door. I walk up to my house and stop and look both ways before crossing the street to get to my house. I run fast across but halfway I hear a loud noise and see blinding lights. That was the last thing I reremember.

"She has been out for a while."
"Did you contact the parents?"
"Yes. They never came though."
I hear voices and weakly open my eyes. I'm dead!! I panic and fly up. I pat myself multiple times and sigh a sign of relief. I'm alive!! I flatten my brown hair and notice that it has gotten a little curly on the ends again. I sit up on the bed and let my feet dangle off the bed. I hear footsteps and see a doctor enter the room.
He coughs and looks away.

"Last night you were hit by a car. We notified your parents but no one has shown up." He says. Figures. He looks at me with pity in his eyes and I get mad and get off the bed.
"Don't worry, I'm used to it." I say and cringe at the thoughts of all those times they were never there for me. But I always was for them. A wonderful family, huh? I feel a sudden pain in my chest and clutch to where I feel the pain. I have a hard time breathing and lean my arm on ths edge of the bed. The doctor rushes to me.

"It's ok. Just breathe, in, out." He continues to say. I do as told and the pain fades. He frowns and I ask,

"What is wrong with me?"

"We don't really know. All we know is, whatever it is, it was caused by the impact of the car hitting you."

Now that I look down I notice I have bruises and scratches all over my legs and arms. I frown. He hesitates but then says,

"But we do know one thing."

"And what is that?" I ask, my heart now speeding up.

"If this keeps up you could possibly..

Die in a year."
