"A journey of a thousand miles must begin with a single step." -Lao-Tsu
"So.. I was wandering if you'd pick me up tomorrow after my job. Around 7PM?" I ask as I shut the truck door and lean on the rolled down windowed door. He leans in, closing the distance between us, "take care of your foot. Be sure to re-bandage it every few hours." He says and I laugh. "And?"
"And. You can't leave without me kissing you bye." He says and motions for me to come on his side of the truck. In a swift motion, he rolls down his driver window and pecks me on the mouth. "Night, Quinn." He says and my face heats.
"Night, Andy." I say and walk off into my house. I rush up to my room and strip from my bathing suit and wash myself- making sure not to hurt my foot even worse by putting pressure on it. Once I get out, I look under the sink and spot a few bandages and quickly wrap it around my foot like Andy showed me and dress up in my PJs.Plop! I land gracefully on my bed and see that I had gotten a text on my phone from Andy.
Andy: What are we doing tomorrow?
Me: You'll see.
I smirk at my response, that I'm sure will leave him in great curiosity. I silently slip into my bed, put my phone on charge, and sleep.
Beep!
Beep!
B-I slam my hand onto my alarm clock and slowly crawl out of bed. Monday. Work. People. Ugh...
I walk into my bathroom and get ready for work and walk. Making sure I look both ways before crossing the street again. So I don't get hit again. My heart starts its throbbing thing again and I grip at it- making my hands on my chest form into hard fists. Now at this point, I'm gasping for air- trying to think of anything, to just receive some. Now, after taking a few steps forward, I finally reach the doors to the bakery. Still clutching to my chest, I head inside the bakery, the smell of bread filling my nose. I stumble forward and trip over my own footing. Parker notices me and rushes to my side.
"Quinn? What's wrong?!" He says in a panicked tone. His eyes focusing on multiple things but me. "Call... Ambulance.." I heave out.
My time. It's slipping. I just know it. No one has to tell me. Because I already know it's true.
My eyelashes flicker open, coming in contact with the bright lighten hospital ceiling again. This time though- I could tell my condition is far worse than last times. I got wires and plugs sticking out every which way. I can't even move. My body feels like a huge brick waiting to just be dropped.
"Quinn!!" A frantic voice beside me cherps and I look over, slightly moving my neck while trying to deal with the pain.
"Andy?" I say and he clamps my hand tightly. "I'm so glad you're finally awake!" He says and I smile up at him. He leans down and kisses my forehead and runs his hands gently through the hair in my face. My smile fades and I frown."I don't think-"
"I know." He says and shakes his head. He covers his face with his free hand and rubs his face. He looks as though he hasn't slept in years. His hair is a mess, knotted at all sides. His eyes have huge bags under them. And his face is extremely pale. "You should rest... And .. Eat." I usher out and he nods. "I will. But after I get to talk to you longer." He says and leans down to my hand and kisses it lightly. I sadly smile up at him.
"Goodnight, Quinn." I hear a voice say up to me as I look around to see where it is coming from. I see a bright light and I extend a hand over my eyes to block some of it out. "Quinn." I hear Andy's voice say, maybe Andy's? "Quinn.. You.. Are.. So .. Beautiful.." I hear him attempting to sing One Directions song, What Makes You Beautiful. A small smile spreads across my face.
