Numb. Thats all I felt. I dont remember walking into the Justice building. Before I knew it I was sitting down on the small velvet couch, and I didn't realize I was crying until the door creaked open and Clove hurried in, a look of concern upon her freckled features. "Tris-..." She uttered out.
I looked up, and put a hand over my mouth, muffled whimpers escaping my lips. My vision was blurry and I heard the door close behind her as she walked over and I felt the small girl pull me into her arms as best she could for her tiny stature. "I-....I'm so...I'm so sorry, Beatrice." She choked out.
Clove knew not to say anything that wasn't true. She knew I was smarter to believe that ''You'll be alright' Crap. We sat there for moments longer, until the doors opened, and Clove gave me one long hug. "Thank you so much...for everything." She told me sincerely, and tilted my chin up. "I believe in you." She whispered, and I could see tears welling in her eyes as she walked out. Clove. Crying. I couldnt believe it. Clove never cried. Ever.
I wondered how someone could maintain that emotionally strong their whole life as she did. I was snapped out of thought when Cato entered the room. I had become close with the both of them, and Cato was like a brother to me. Before I felt myself move I was running into his arms and he was hugging me tightly. "You're smart. You can do this." He encouraged but I shook my head. "I can't let Tobias die.." I squeaked out, and bunched his shirt into my fists. "You know he's not going to let you die for him." Cato muttered. "How do you-"
"I just talked to him. He told me he volunteered to protect you." I swallowed, and my heart sank. "I wont-...I wont let him die. I wont." When the door opened again, Cato gave me a kiss on the cheek, before turning to leave. "Blondie-.." I croaked out, and he looked behind him. "Thank you." Was all I said and he nodded walking out.
The next time I saw Tobias was on the train. The minute layed eyes on him, I slapped him clear across the face. He stumbled backwards, eyes wide, and I started yelling profanity at him, until I was pulled back by Enobaria. Tears were streaming down my face and I wriggled helplessly in Enobarias grip. "YOU BASTARD! YOU-....THIS IS FATAL! ARE YOU CRAZY TOBIAS?! DO YOU EVEN CARE ABOUT YOUR LIFE AT ALL?! MY GOD DO YOU E-..." I had to stop and suck in a breath. "Do you even care about me?" I wheezed, and went limp. Tobias just stared, hurt in his eyes. "I've got her." He told Enobaria calmly and scooped me from her arms.
He carried me bridal style back to his room, and I clung to his shirt the whole way. I sobbed into his shoulder, and felt my world collapsing around me. "Shh....Tris.." He cooed and I felt his hand on the back of my head. "Baby girl-...." He murmered gently, and walked into the bathroom, sitting on the floor by the tub. "Hey-...look at me." I shook my head and he sat me up, tilting my chin upwards.
I felt hi thumb swipe across my cheek and I swallowed thickly, with a sniffle. "You'll be alright. I promise you this." I shook my head and looked down to which Four responded by making me look at him again. "I won't let you die. You'll go home, back to Cato and Clove. I promise, Beatrice."
"I'm not letting you give up your life for me!" I yell in his face but he kept a modest expression. "I'm sorry, I wont live without you." He sighed, shaking his head. "Tobias.." I whimpered, feeling my eyes blur again. Without a word he pulled me to his chest and rocked me slowly.
The slow rise and fall of his chest calmed me, but tears still splattered onto his shirt. Neither of us said a word for a long while. "Four?" I asked and looked up at him, my voice rough. "yes?" He asked, and I could see the pain in his eyes. "Please-...don't leave me alone."
With one long sigh, he nodded. "I Promise."
