Gentle fingers caressed my cheek, delicate as the wind blows
Her hair smelt of strawberries, abundant under the sun’s glow
Joy is in her eyes, though filled with emptiness and sorrow
As I near the place that I call tomorrow
There are times when the stars are life honey; they are sweet
It is a blessing to all, her child who was asleep
Through raging storms and towering seas, he used to lie in deep slumber
Now, here she is, standing in deep wonder
When you spread your wings, take flight and breakaway
There are certain words that you will have to say
It must come from your heart to flow out from your lips
Sweeter than sugar, sweeter than a kiss
To acquire my freedom, I sacrificed tears
In an exchange of seconds, I have lost years
I am one with the sky, the cobalt waves of the sea rippling
The heart inside my chest can no longer control its beating
Returning with good fortune to the place I call home
I find there no more warmth for I am already alone
The protective wings that have loved me for so long
It is now not more than a distant memory; all is lost, all is gone
The wind whipped across my face and swirled around my ankles
Its touch lingered on the skin, grasping it like shackles
Arms open wide, I wait for that tender embrace
But I knew it was only memories; ashes from the past that will forever remain
