Chapter four: There’s always a first
Alison, Ginny, and Colin stepped out of the carriage at the base of the stone steps. The front doors were thrown wide open spilling light out onto the grounds. The entrance hall had a few students in it, still making their way into the Great Hall. The four hour glasses stood empty of stones, waiting to start a new year.
Professor McGonagall stepped into the entrance hall. “Hurry along now, to your seats!” she called out to the students. They picked up their pace as they entered the Great Hall, it was decorated as always, the tables set with golden plates, empty of food, and hundreds of floating candles above their heads. And never did they dream that they
Might someday be divided.
For were there such friends anywhere
As Slytherin and Gryffindor?
Unless it was the second pair
Of Hufflepuff and Ravenclaw,
So how could it have gone so wrong?
How could such friendships fail?
Why, I was there, so I can tell
the whole sad, sorry tale.
Said Slytherin, "We'll teach just those
whose ancestry's purest."
Said Ravenclaw, "We'll teach those whose
Intelligence is surest."
Said Gryffindor, "We'll teach all those
with brave deeds to their name."
Said Hufflepuff, "I'll teach the lot
and treat them just the same."
These differences caused little strife
when first they came to light.
For each of the four founders had
