*********
Maybe it was because she was so busy with Quidditch practice three evenings a week and all of her homework, but Bella couldn't believe it when she realized that she'd already been at Hogwarts for two months. The castle felt more like home than her home had ever done. She finally heard from her parents, but it wasn't the response she had been expecting:
Bella,
Don't worry about that for now.
Enjoy your school year, how's your lesson's going?
We will explain everything when you come home.
Love,
Mum and Dad
Don't worry about that for now...how was she supposed not to worry when all she could think about was Hagrid thinking her last name was Black and not Swan?
But, although that was always on her mind, she had other things to distract her for a while. Her lessons were becoming more and more interesting now that they had mastered the basics. Bella found herself enjoying it more and more, and couldn't wait to try some of the stuff she had learned on Malfoy.
On Halloween morning, everyone woke up to the delicious smell of baking pumpkin wafting through the corridors. Bella started following the smell with her nose in the air and her eyes closed until Ron and Harry grabbed her arms and dragged her to their next lesson. Even better than the delicious smell of food, in Charms Professor Flitwick announced that he thought they were ready to make objects fly, something they had all been dying to try since they'd seen him make Neville's toad zoom around the classroom. Flitwick put them all into pairs to practice. Bella's partner was none other than Hermione and since Harry already had a partner, Ron joined them both. All three of them weren't happy with the partner situation, Hermione hadn't spoken to either Bella, Harry, or Ron since the day the broomsticks arrived.
"Now, don't forget that nice wrist movement we've been practicing!" squeaked Flitwick, perched on top of his many books. "Swish and flick, remember, swish and flick. And saying magic words is important too - never forget Wizard Baruffio, who said 's' instead of 'f' and found himself on the floor with a buffalo on his chest"
It was easier than expected, but Bella couldn't get the feather to levitate off the table. Ron got so impatient that he prodded it and set fire to it, Bella had to quickly put it out with her hat and request a new feather.
"Wingardium Leviosa!" Ron shouted, waving his long arms like a windmill. Bella copied his action and giggled when her wand nearly went up Hermione's nose.
Hermione glared at them both and shoved Bella's wand away from her nose. "You're saying it wrong, " she snapped. "It's Wing-gar-dium Levi-o-sa, make the 'gar' nice and long."
"You do it, then, if you're so clever" Bella snarled.
Hermione rolled up the sleeves of her gown, flicked her wand and said, "Wingardium Leviosa!"
