Yumiko Ashizawa was a wonderful girl, navy locks pooling around her waist, and her pink eyes glittering with a beautiful adolescence. Of course, she was soft, gentle and cared very much about those who she deemed a friend.
One friend in particular, Ace, who she had a soft spot for - what? She couldn't help it! He always had a serious face or that cocky smirk, not only that but he was a huge dork...Plus, he was there for her when it really counted, and aboard Whitebeard's ship, even with all the crew, some nights could be damn near lonely. Why? Well, cue a childish has-been, but nightmares were not so great. It's not like they were of anything specific, but at times Yumiko would wake up in a cold sweat, tears brimming her eyes, and he body lurching from the sheets as her heart pounded in her ears.
She never remembered the nightmares, only the awful feeling of dread after. Thing was, this was when Ace was needed most; he was warm to the touch, great for cuddling and just relaxed her completely. All fears that clutched at her faded, the claws of the nightly terrors retreating as soon as Ace wrapped his arms around her.So what was she waiting for right now? Ace to open his bloody door and let her in. It was, what? Past two in the morning? And she was waiting outside his room, having snuck from her own and past other crew members (who may or may not have been completely and utterly spannered a few hours before).
Right then, all she wanted was a damn good cuddle, and Ace was the only person who would suffice.Gently, after having grown tired of waiting for him to get up and let her in, Yumiko pushed the door open, peeking inside for a brief second before hesitantly and quietly stepping inside completely, closing the door behind her. A brief pause came about her, pink eyes nestling on the sleeping form of Ace, the girl intently watching his chest rise and fall with each breath that he took.
Damn, he looked adorable.
A silent sigh passed her lips, as she ran her hand through her hair, padding closer to his side before tentatively reaching out a hand. Fingertips brushed some of his unkempt hair from his forehead, the heat of his body quite noticeable, making her only yearn to cuddle more.
She needed warmth!
With a featherlight smile on her lips, she then proceeded to gently shake his shoulder, hoping that the small movements were enough to wake him from his slumber.
It wasn't.
She pushed his shoulder a tad harder, being mindful not to hurt him (Pfft, not that she could...Ace was strong) as she murmured, lowly, "Ace, wake up! Please?"
A few grunts passed his lips, before he shot open an eye, jerking back a little in shock at the sight of her, "woah, when did you get here?"
His voice sounded tired, common of someone who had just woken up, and it caused a pang of guilt to shoot through her, even if she found it cute. She shrugged in response, however, unsure of whether to tell him that another nightmare had wracked her body, causing her to seek his comfort and security.
But it seemed that she needn't say a word, for Ace opened his arms, whilst closing his eyes, whispering somewhat hoarsely, "nightmare, huh? Lay down."She complied, moving to his side and under the covers, nestling comfortably against him with her head on his chest. As per usual, he wrapped his arms around her, chin resting atop her head as he hummed, "remember what it was about this time?"
"No, not really," she whispered, eyes closing to the light throb of his heartbeat. That in itself was relaxing, as it soothed out the tension she was feeling in her stomach instantly. For some reason, just hearing it gave her satisfaction - he was alive and well, and he was holding her. The dread that had been hanging over her was disappearing, and she let out a breath of relief.
A second passed by, and then she asked, "you asleep?""Nope," he responded, holding her closer, "you should sleep, though."
She knew she should, but doing so maybe was a little harder done than said. Nonetheless, she closed her eyes, and tried to allow sleep to take her. It seemed the deep thrumming of his heart helped achieve that feat, as in moments, gentle breaths passed her lips, the tension leaving her body. Ace smiled, before kissing the top of the woman's head, pleased that she was so lax around him.No sooner had she gone, so had he, and the two slept soundly until the morning came around.

Bonus:
Clattering outside Ace's room could be heard, as unruly others sauntered about the ship in search for him - it seemed they were busy, and he was no where to be seen. The same went for their dear friend Yumiko, and so a tonne of the crew had snuck outside Ace's room to see if the two were together. After a bunch collated at the door, all hushedly fighting over who would open the door and peer in first, Marco appeared and told them all to be quiet. He wasn't privy to the idea of disturbing the two, if the two were in the room at all, but it appeared everyone else was dead set on it.
"I'm opening the door, back away," he mentioned, raising an eyebrow quizzically when the others hadn't done so just yet. With one comical step backwards, the excited horde at the door had backed away, leaving the job to Marco. Seconds passed, and he was slowly, but surely, opening the door and peering into the room. A wide smile came about his lips, as he closed the door again, quietly telling everyone that the two occupants inside should be left on their own.
The sight of the two cuddling, well, Marco couldn't disturb that, and in all fairness, he'd probably get chewed out by the two later if they were. Not only that, but he found it too damn adorable, and in the rough times on the sea, calms moments like what they were sharing were extremely hard to come by. So why ruin that?
Inside the room however, Yumiko had stirred, only for a second, managing to grumble to herself softheartedly, "perverts...what were they expecting?"
Then, she returned back to cuddling, sleep taking her again rather quickly, as Ace tightened his grip around her in his sleep.________________________________
