One Piece: Oneshots

Request: (AU) Doflamingo x deaf!Reader x Law

[First] [Last], a wonderful girl. Her smile was bright, and her touch was soft and gentle; a fragile soul, she was, and her heart was made of pure gold. Kindness ruled her actions, and her porcelain facade never cracked. Others were lightened by her aura, and whenever in her presence, all problems seemed to fade away.

She seemed to be the very epitome of optimism. Most wondered why? Had she some dark secret? Or maybe a tragic backstory?

Truth be told, she was just a kind soul - she'd had a good family, good life, and had grown into a wonderful adult. But, one limitation was simply her lack of hearing. She'd been born without it, and grown up learning many ways to keep up with other children in terms of communication. Sign Language and lip reading were her methods. That was until she grew to be a little older, and then she'd had the opportunity to receive implants - at last, she could finally hear the world around her.

At the time, her parents were ecstatic, and the procedure was done - and now, she could feel somehow normal without people looking at her dumbfounded whenever she signed or tried to speak. Her language and voice had started to mature too, now she could hear herself. A great arc, she supposed, to her character - overcoming something like that. [Name] had never let it get her down, though.

She also never let it hold her back.

That's why she was in her job now, working as a secretary, her best friend, Law, working in Admin for the trading company they were at.
The people were lovely, she supposed, but Law was the one and only for her. Often times, people mistook them for a couple, but the two would get flustered and assure that they were not together.

Much to Law's dismay, but hey, he wasn't about to bring that to light. She was happy and that's what counted. So walks to the cafe down the street, and making sure she got home safe, as well as movie nights and the likes were enough for him. 

That morning, Law was simply waiting to see the sight for sore eyes, hoping she would wander through the offices of the second to last floor and to her own. Maybe they could chat, maybe he could finally grow a pair and ask the girl out? ...Maybe. He heaved a sigh, and then his neighbouring co-worker, Baby 5, leaned over the board separating them. 

"Is today the day, then, Law?" she chimed, hand cupping her chin as her eyes flashed devilishly. In the adjacent cubicle, another common face appeared - Buffalo. He was a bit of a trickster in the office, but quite easy to bribe; Law had only done it once, in order to keep him silent. 

"Yeah, Law! Aren't you going to ask [Name] on a date or what?" he asked, snickering a little at how flustered Law was becoming. He didn't much appreciate them sticking their nose where it wasn't wanted, but he supposed he was being a little too easy to read when it came to [Name]. He heaved a sigh, then waved his hand dismissively, "you two have work to do, don't you? Get back to it." 

"Aw, Law is blushing!" giggled Baby 5, leaning forward to gently prod Law's shoulder. He swatted her hand away, sending her a cold glare, which in turn caused Baby 5 to shrink away and back to her cubicle. A second later, the ticking of keys at a computer were heard, as well as a little sniffle, "I hate it when you do that."

"She hates it when you do that," Buffalo reiterated, before shaking his head and slinking back into his own cubicle, the sound of him working soon becoming music to Law's ears. Finally, they might actually do some work for the company, instead of Law always getting called into the office to be scolded by one of the executives. He shook his head, hoping to force away the general sounds of an office, listening out only for the sound of the elevator. 

He had typed up a couple of paragraphs for his report, and was about to look back on some statistics when the elevator bleeped and the sound of the doors rushing open sounded. From where he was sat, he managed to get a glimpse, and a small smile grew on his lips. Upon [Name]'s appearance, he rose from his seat, and quickly made his way over to her.
