Dakota's pov

"You're WHAT?" I basically yell at my parents. They've just told me that their unit has been deployed and they leave in a couple of weeks. "I'm sorry honey, but that's what we signed up for. We knew this could happen and now it has." My mom tried to reason with me but I wasn't having it right now. "You can't go I'll be all alone! Isn't that illegal or something?" I was determined to make them stay somehow, even though deep down I knew I couldn't do anything about this. "That is true. Perhaps she can move in with your sister?" My dad turned to my mom to say this, I guess they assumed I would get the little hint and let them discuss this, but I am not moving in with Aunt Camaren. She doesn't even really like me, and I haven't even done anything to her! "NO!" They both turn to me in shock at my outburst. "How about I move in with a friend?" I ask, hoping that they'll take the bait for my master plan that I thought of on the spot. They look at each other then back at me with narrowed eyes, "What friend?" Mom asks. I'm 90% sure she knows exactly what friend I'm talking about, but here goes nothin'. "What about the Parkers?" I ask nervously. I know my parents aren't extremely fond of Drake, in fact every time he comes over they come into my room, like, every ten minutes and make some weird excuse for peaking in. And one time they actually asked me to stop hanging out with him. Of course that didn't happen. "No! Absolutely not!" They say, starting to walk away from where we were in the living room. "Wait, wait, hear me out! Miss Parker just got married and her new husband has a kid, so it wouldn't be just me and Drake in the house. Plus Drake has a little sister, so it wouldn't be that way even if miss Parker wasn't married! Please, just don't send me to Aunt Camaren's!" I plead, practically on my knees. "Who's this new husband Aubrey has?" Mom is suddenly interested, seeing as her and miss Parker are good friends. "His name is Walter Nichols, I think. I don't know. Drake and I talked about it a little but then we just started napping." I said shrugging my shoulders. "Oh I think that the weather guy on that news channel. Yeah, he's not all that great." Dad said as he walked into the kitchen. I rolled my eyes. "The point is I don't want to stay at Aunt Camarens's so can I please at least ask if I can stay with them?" I asked my mom while using the puppy dog eyes. She sighed, "Well I guess I could ask, but honey we could be gone for a good three years. Are you sure they would let you stay that long?" She asked. I smiled, "Well there's only one way to find out!" She glared at me and grabbed the phone. After dialing the number she said, "If they say no then you go with your aunt ok?" I nodded, I'm sure they'll say yes. "Hello?...Hi, Can I speak to Aubrey please?....Thank you.....Hey! how are you?.......Yes it has been too long!.....Yes Dakota told me, Congrats!....Yes well I have a huge favor to ask, and it's ok to say no." Mom looked at me when she said this, as if she expected no to be the answer. "Well Andrew and I are getting deployed an-" I'm guessing she got cut off by Miss Parker's surprise. Mom smiled then continued, "Well Dakota's gonna be here all by her self for a long while and well, again you can say no, w-" again she got cut off, but what was funny was the look of suprise on her face. She glanced at me and then started speaking again, "Really?......That'd be amazing, Aubrey, thank you so much!.....Oh, this is perfect thank you!.....We'll meet tomorrow!.....It was great talking to you too.....Alright, bye!" Mom hung up the phone and turned to me, "I am so glad that I didn't put money on this." She said as she slumped into the kitchen. I laughed and cheered in victory as I followed you into the kitchen. "Hahaha! I told you that she would say yes! You underestimated how lovable I am, Mother dearest!" They role their eyes. Dad mumbles something into his cup and I glare into his direction, "What was that?" I asked, crossing my arms. "I said, 'That's a matter of opinion.'" He repeated as he laughed. I roll my eyes and start to walk out of the kitchen. "What ever! At least Miss Parker loves me!" I yell over my shoulder as I enter my room.
