Dakota's pov
I walk out into the family room to see My parents, Aubrey, and Walter standing by the couch. Drake had followed me out and was standing behind me. "Drake, why don't you help Dakota with her stuff?" Aubrey said as she gestured out the door. Drake groaned and pushed me toward the door, making me stumble. We both laugh and I shove him back. "Hey!" He said as he ran into the wall. "Oops!" I yell over my shoulder as I run out the door. I can hear him chasing after me, I reached the car and hid behind it. "I saw where you went!" He yelled. "No you didn't!" I said. It went quiet and I thought it was safe to come out, so I stood up. As soon as I stood up I was tackled into a hug by Drake. I squealed and laughed "No! I've been bamboozled!" I yelled. He looked down at me confused so I rolled my eyes, "It means tricked, doofus." I smiled as I popped the trunk and pulled out two of my bags. "Here," I grunted as I handed them to Drake, "those are the heaviest." He glares at me as he fixes his hold on them. I grab my other two cases and close the trunk. "So are you sad that your parents are leaving?" Drake asked as we slowly walked back to the front door. "Well duh. But I'm not gonna mope around about it. They have a duty-that they signed up for-to their country, and I can't change that. I can only hope that the time will fly by and they'll be back in a flash." I said sadly. I started to tear up, but I refused to cry while my parents were still here. Maybe afterwards, maybe. "Well, I just hope that your stay at casa Drake will be enjoyed." He said as he set a bag down to open a door. We walked in and set my bags by the door and I stood up straight. "Ugh why do I have so much stuff?" I sighed. Drake chuckled and shook his head. Someone cleared their throat. I looked forward and saw my mom, looking at me and Drake with a blank expression. "Well, um, it's best if your dad and I get going. We don't want to be late." She said as she stepped forward and took both my hands. I smiled at her and then looked at dad. "Yeah, kiddo, you'll behave right? We won't get any letters detailing how you set the house on fire?" He joked as he ruffled my hair. We laughed together. I'll miss this. All three of us together. Just laughing about nothing. "No, dad. I'm not gonna burn the house down." I smile as I pull them both in for a hug. They wrap their arms tightly around me. "We'll miss you, hun." Mom whispers shakily. Don't cry, don't cry, don't cry; "I'll miss you too." I can feel the much hated tears fall down my cheeks. We pull apart and I quickly wipe away my tears. We'll call you as soon as we can and we will tell you the address that you can send us letters at. Alright?"dad and mom took turns speaking as they walked toward the door. "Yeah I got it." I say. I take a look at them, and study my moms long, wavy, black hair; her tan skin; her red lips; and hazel eyes. Then my dad's short, auburn hair; his pale skin and hazel eyes. "Goodbye, sweetie." Dad smiled as he placed his hand on the door handle. I feel Drake move beside me, placing a hand on my back as I answer. "Bye Dad, bye mom." And with that the door was shut, the floodgates opened, and I missed my mommy and daddy.
