"Back up a minute," Jean frowned. "I'm still trying to process the whole apprentice thing. What the hell is going on?"
"Aren't you not supposed to be stupid at the moment?" Lord Hector hissed under his breath. However, what with her inane ability to hear better now, she caught it. Her head whipped to see Lord Hector massaging his temples.
"Well, forgive me, My Lord, I wasn't informed very well about anything," Jean snapped. Somehow, her temper was getting the best of her.
"Uh, Jean," Hyojin called almost inaudibly but somehow sternly. "A Lord. Don't do that."
Jean sighed. "You're right. Sorry, My Lord. But please explain this in detail to me."
"Quite alright," King Steven amused. "We can explain. Hyojin, if you may?"
"Yes Your Majesty," she nodded and turned towards Jean.
"Jean, you do know that when this world was created, it was always attacked from the outside abyss. Years after years. We evolved, but the attacks never stopped. No matter how many ships we sent there, none would return, ever," Hyojin started explaining. "Though a few eons ago, there came round 6 of us who were born with special gifts all selected by Nature herself. They rose up to protect this world from most of the dangers it was facing at that time. These 6 then became our first generation of Elders."
Hyojin paused to check if Jean was following her till then. When she saw that Jean was looking at her with a confused expression as yet, she sighed but resorted to continuing.
"They protected and served our world with each assigned to do a special task. However, more than a century passed, but there seemed to be no more of our kind with any special abilities. The Elders were growing old and they realized that they need a new batch of Elders to keep protecting this world. They prayed to Nature for days at end to give the world more protectors. After a long time of soltitude, Nature answered. She would give the Elders followers, every new generation, who would learn the abilities of these Elders and carry forth the duties till the next generation appeared. When the first generation of Elders rejoiced at the news, Nature gave them a catch. One of the early Elders would have to sacrifice their life. Shocked by the news, the Elders demanded an explaination. Nature was patient against the outrage and explained that this Elder would be reborn as the chosen one whenever a new generation was to be chosen and wither when a new chosen one was required. After much debate, Lady Shae volunteered. She was the most peace loving Elder of the six and she hated the fact that the Elders were now residing to fighting. Nature agreed and Lady Shae is now reborn every time the world needs a new generation of Elders. Only she can find, train and unite them to be the next generation of Elders already assigned by Nature herself."
Hyojin paused to take a long breath, a little worn out from speaking continuously. Jean's eyes widened as realization slowly crept up to her. There was a short silence as she took in the information never told to her before.
"And you think that... I am the 'Chosen One'?" she bemused.
Lord Hector smiled "Ah, you've finally caught up. Good job."
Jean snarled. "I refuse to believe this crap. Why, pray tell me, am I chosen?"
Lord Hector's smile turned to a frown immediately. "The same reason why we were all chosen. Nature has decided. And since I have the gift of foreseen knowledge, it is confirmed that you are the one desired by Natue, Lady Shae, as well as your disciples."
"Jean," she corrected. "Not Lady Shae."
"You are the reincarnation," he smirked back. "You went through the transformation right in front of our eyes. So there is literally nothing that can make us think otherwise."
