Tobias

I ran down the corridor, following the faint trail. My heart was pounding, wind rushing past my face. I passed the training room, Christina, Will, and Uriah didn’t need an explanation for why to come along, my face told it all. We ran down the corridor until we reached the doors to outside the compound. The trail stopped there. My panic was rising, worrying thoughts of Tris fresh in my mind. Christina asked what this was all about and all I could do was gasp out Tris. They all exchanged worried glances. Then I remembered the control room I had access to, I ran as fast as I could, without looking back, to check the cameras. I frantically searched until I found the one over the compound exit door. When I saw Eric a burst of rage exploded inside me, because I knew exactly where he’d taken her…

“Tris! Tris! Get up! We have to go!” I said franticly, trying to shake her as hard as I could without hurting her. She fluttered her eyes, looked like she was going to say something but just collapsed. She had many bruises and cuts, for once she looked frail. This made me feel so angry at who did this to her. I got there just in time to see Eric dragging her on the floor, in a struggling attempt to retreat. He was so focused on dragging Tris he didn’t even notice me running full force toward him. I sure paid Eric those bruises and cuts of Tris. You wouldn’t believe how hard I punched him, I hope I killed him. He went down, out cold. Alarms were going off, all the guards that were in our way were now dead. I had also saw a woman screaming and running off when Eric went down I never saw her face, but somehow I felt like I knew her. Cristina and Will came running down the corridor, Will had a black eye and Cristina had a cut across her forehead.

“Tobias we have to go! We got in here, but we also have to get out of this place!” Christina said tapping her foot and gesturing towards the hallway to the exit.

“I agree we have to move. Erudite headquarters is no place for us right now.” Will said.

Then they both looked at Tris. Christina gasped, and Will just got really wide eyed.

“Tobias, what-” Christina started, but I cut her off.

“You’re right we have to get out of here.” I said picking up Tris, and hearing the faint running of coming guards. Christina just nodded, still seeming shocked by Tris’s appearance. We set off; Uriah was by the doorway to be sure we didn’t get trapped within.

“Took ya guys long enough! Let’s go! Won’t be long till more show up!” Uriah said, opening the door. He had at least 4 guards out cold on the ground around him.“After you.”

I ran out into the chill air, adrenaline pumping in my blood. I looked back to see Christina, Will, and Uriah following close behind. I saw the train ahead, speeding along as normal. It seemed at an impossible distance to get to, but I was determined to get to safety.

“Come on! We can make it! Run like you’ve never run before!” I said, screaming above the noise of the train and the wind.

It was true to say that was the fastest I think I’ve ever run in my life. The train was getting closer and closer but always tantalizingly out of reach. Exhaustion was kicking in now, and Tris was starting to way me down. Her limp body in my hands was the only thing to keep me running. I heard gunshots behind me as guards had opened fire at us. I cursed, hearing the air ripping as a bullet narrowly missed my leg.  I realized I was running alongside the train now, the tunnel fast approaching. I threw Tris into the opening of the train, and grabbed the handle. I turned back smiling, only to see Christina had heavy blood flowing from her shoulder, making her black clothes drenched with dark blood. She had gotten shot. Will was supporting her, and they were falling behind.

“Christina! Will! Uriah! Hurry!” I said frantically. I had gotten them into this mess, and I wasn’t going to leave them behind. Then, Uriah ran up by Christina and picked her up, and threw her into an opening. I heard her swear in pain at the impact of landing on the train.

“Christina, my god are you ok? I never meant for-” I started, but she cut me off.

“I’m fine, I’m fine. Let’s just get them on to the train!” She said forcefully, wincing.

Will was grasping for the railing but missing by just inches. He was looking frantic, the tunnel swallowing his only means of escape. He swore, and with a burst of energy jumped to the handle. I jumped forward to help him in, pulling him in with whatever strength I had left. Just in time, as the tunnel covered the door, dim lighting illuminated the cart. With a sigh, I sat down only to jump up again panicked.

“Where’s Uriah!?” I said, panicked.

“Relax he got in the last cart.” Will said, still heaving mighty breaths.

Christina gasped, and clutched her shoulder wincing. She then cursed trying not to show how much pain she was in. She weakly smiled. “Um I got shot.”

“Oh my god Christina! You got shot?!” Will said going over to her.

“That’s what I just said isn’t it?” She said rolling her eyes.

Will took off his shirt, revealing a sweating muscular chest. Christina turned away flustered. Did she just blush?  “Come here, we’ve got to stop the bleeding.” Will said, as he began applying pressure to the open gunshot wound.  Christina winced as the pressure was applied. The shirt was quickly turning a dark red.

I turned away from them to Tris. I noticed she was stirring. I quickly went over to her, cradling her in my arms. I saw her eyes flutter open , and I smiled a smile of relief.

I hugged her gently but firmly in my arms and said, “Oh my god Tris, thank god you’re ok…” I pulled her back to see her confused eyes staring back at me.

“Tobias…” She said weakly, smiling. “Where am I? Where are we?”

I smiled “You’re with me Tris, and that’s all that matters right now.”
