finding Erik after he accidentally hurts you

---

"I'm so sick of the same argument!" You yelled for what felt like the 9th time this week, clenching your fists in your already messy hair. "If you leave here, then you leave me! What is your facination with leaving here? Look around you! Your family is here! Charles, Raven, Hank, Scott... me. We're all here, why would you want to leave that behind?"

"Because I don't deserve it, (y/n)! I came from a fucked up time and I'm never going to get out of that mind set. The nightmares, the voices, the memories all come flooding back. Every time. Every damn time and I need to do this alone!"

"No, you don't." You said, taking a step towards him but hesitating as you could feel the anger coming off of him. "I'm right here for you to console you when you cry, to talk you through your nightmares, to soothe the voices out of your head. That's what I've been doing since you opened up to me!"

"I know! But... I don't know (y/n)! I don't know what I want. I'm pretty fucked up, and I can change. I just need... time. I don't know." Tears begin to well in his eyes as he ran a distressed hand through his hair, breathing out a shaky breath. "Just... stop. Stop trying to fix everything and let me leave."

"No! I can't just let you go! I- We love you, Erik. You're part of our family, family doesn't leave each other behind. Just... stay here and think about it."

"I have been thinking about it!" He said, waving his arms through the hair; his eyes were becoming redder and redder as he tried to resist the tears from coming down his face. "Why can't you just let me leave?!" This was one of the first times you'd heard him scream; once he said the last word, you felt a sharp sting across your cheek and you immediately fell to the ground. You reached your hand to your cheek and felt the familiar sticky feeling of blood. You weren't sure where the source came from, but you saw Erik with his fists clenched and a shocked look on his face, a tear streaming down his cheek. He took a step towards you, but hesitated before turning and running out of the door.

"Erik!" You called after him, hissing as you touched the wound. It wasn't too deep, but it hurt like a bitch; Erik couldn't control his powers in that moment, but you still knew that he blamed himself for everything that had just happened. Of course, he was the one who cut you... but it's not like it was on purpose. "Erik!" You called out, scrambling to your feet and running down the hallway where he was running, only to find that he was nowhere to be found. You couldn't even hear his footsteps anymore, worrying you further. "Shit, shit, shit Charles!" You called out, running to his room and looking around for him. Cerebrum. You had to use it. It was the only easy way to find Erik now.

---

"Erik!" You called out, knowing that he couldn't have moved too far from the location you saw him on Cerebrum. "Erik!" You yelled his name again, your heart pumping faster and resulting in the cut on your cheek start to bleed again. "Erik, where are you?!" When you turned around, your eyes focused on a familiar face, leaning against a tree and staring solemnly towards the  grassy ground. "Erik." You whispered lightly, running up towards the tree and kneeling down to be eye level with him.

He didn't even blink when you came to him, his face still emotionless and eyes staring forlornly at the ground. "Erik, hey." You put a hand on his face, a thumb on his cheekbone, the other underneath his chin to get him to look up at you. "Erik, look at me, please." You pleaded; slowly, he turned his blue eyes towards your face, and looked as if he might break down into tears all over again. His eyes scanned over your face, ultimately landing on the cut on your cheek; he brought one hand up to your cheek and carefully brushed his thumb over the slice, making you hiss but you kept yourself close to him.

"I'm sorry." His broken voice whispered, raw from crying; his face contorted and he began to cry in front of you. Pulling him close to your chest, you found yourself start to cry silent tears on his shoulder as well. "I'm so sorry. We'll never have this argument again, I promise. I'm never leaving you, because I love you." You froze, your breath hitching in your throat as what he just said replayed within your mind; you felt him stiffen in your arms, like he had just regretted what he said.

"What?" You asked carefully, pulling out of the embrace and look at his regret-filled face. Oh, he really regretted saying it that much...

"(y/n)..." He trailed off, turning your head towards him and giving you a reassuring smile. "I mean it, I love you." Before you could respond, you saw him leaning towards you, tilting your chin up into a soft, gentle kiss that lit everything inside of you on fire. It was barely a full kiss, like he was testing you out. His hands travelled to your hips, a gentle touch even there; now you got it, he was scared of hurting you again. You decided to deepen the kiss by wrapping your arms around his neck, drawing him closer to you. He pulled away for a moment, his eyes still closed and his mouth open slightly, an exaggerated expression of awe on his face. "Yeah... I definitely love you." The both of you laughed together, sharing a few gentle kisses before walking back to the school hand in hand; you had ran to the location, not thinking about the way back, but it was nice. You walked slow on purpose, just to spend more and more time with Erik.

"Hey Erik?" You coyly asked, leaning against his chest and gently pushing him to the side as you did, making him smile down at you. "I love you too." He stopped walking, spinning you around to face him as the momentum took you over, slamming into his chest.

"You love me...?" He asked, cupping both sides of your face with a sincere look on his face; this is the Erik that only a select few got to see. Vulnerable, sometimes scared, caring, kind... perfect.

"Of course." You replied, standing on your toes and giving him a gentle peck on the lip; it was as if you'd been dating for ages by now. That's what it felt like, you'd always been quite affectionate towards each other, arms around the shoulder, forehead kisses, holding hands in scary situations, holding each other when the other cried. Platonic friends. Pretty much everyone in the school wanted the both of you to get together, once you would announce this to them the whole school would go wild. Carefully, you laced your hands together once more and walked the rest of the way home in comfortable silence.

Dating, you didn't know yet. Didn't kissing and the 'l bomb' usually come after the dating process? But you didn't care... it was imperfect, but it was your own little perfect together. Sure, the both of you were a little dysfunctional, but that's part of the reason why it worked. Untraditional, but traditional all the same. Who ever liked normal anyway?
