Welcome to Paris
"Bonjour passengers, and welcome to Paris! I hope you all had a good flight and thank you for choosing Paris airlines. Thank you, and have a wonderful day." Said one of the flight attendants over the intercom as all the passengers exited the plane. My family and I walked into the airport and looked around. This was the beginning of a new life, a new beginning is always, how should I put it? A new beginning is like a refreshed Internet page, its still the same page that you were previously on, but its clearer and it feels new. My name is Iris Magnolia, I'm 16 years old and I just moved to Paris, France from the United States of America. I have both my mom and my dad, John and Danielle. I have two older brothers, Damien and Justin, and a younger sister, Riley. My dad got a job here as a concept artist for a new show that some studio making. So I had to say goodbye to my life in the US and start over new here in Paris.
"Mom, how are we getting to the new house?" I asked as we started to head over to the luggage return. Either she didn't hear me or she didn't have time to answer me, because she never did answer my question. As I waited for my bag to show up I looked around for a bit. Damien and Justin were talking with each other, and Riley was busy talking with my parents.
"Nino calm down. My flight just landed, I'm going to be home soon. Sometimes I think you worry too much... Yeah, yeah I know. Okay, see you soon, bye." As I was looking around my attention was caught by a girl that was about my age talking on the phone. She had auburn hair, brown eyes, and black thick framed glasses. I also noticed a small mole on the right side of her forehead. She quickly grabbed her bag from the luggage return and turned on her heel to leave. As she was about to pass me someone bumped into her, and no thanks to gravity, she ended up falling onto me.
"Oh my gosh, I'm sorry, I didn't mean to." She said, as I tried to help her up. "Its fine, it wasn't your fault. It was an accident." The girl smiled.
"Well, thank you. Goodbye." And with that the girl disappeared into the crowd.
"Iris! Grab your bag we got to get going!" I heard Damien yell. Hearing his voice pulled me back into reality and I went to go grab my bag. My family and I start heading towards the doors to leave the airport. My mom pulled out her phone and started texting someone. Minutes later she got a reply, she told something to my dad and then turned to me and my siblings.
"Okay guys, your Aunt Nathalie is going to be picking us up so that we can get to the new house. I want you all to be on your best behavior, and we need to move quickly. She has to get back to work as soon as she can, so its best if we don't waste a lot of her time." My mom said with a very serious tone. I've never met my Aunt Nathalie, but I heard she works for a big fashion designer here in Paris. We walked out of the airport and spotted a silver car pulling up to the curb. It parked and a tall lady walked out. She had navy blue hair with a red streak in it pulled into a tight bun. She had blue eyes and silver frame glasses.
"Nathalie, its good to see you, its been so long." My mom said as she walked up to her and gave her a hug.
"Yes, it has been too long. I'm glad to see you my dear sister, so these are your kids. I haven't seen the boys since they were little. They have really grown up to be a couple of handsome young men." My Aunt Nathalie said, just looking at her, I can tell that she's very professional. Even the way she talks just sounds professional and mature. We put our luggage in the trunk and we all squeezed into the car. My mom and aunt Natalie were the only ones talking, catching up since they haven't seen each other for who knows how many years. For the rest of us, it was pretty awkward. When we got to the new house Aunt Natalie helped us unload our bags from the trunk and said her goodbyes.
"Well I've got to get back to work. It was nice seeing you all, maybe we can all have lunch together sometime soon. Goodbye." Aunt Nathalie said as she got back into her car and drove away. I turned to look at our new house, it was a tall but thin building. It was made of bricks and it was an off-white color. It was four and a half stories, I say four and a half because the fourth floor is bigger than the rest. When we walked in, my siblings and I ran straight upstairs so we could claim a bed room first. I managed to squeeze past them and I ran straight up to the fourth floor. I gained quite a bit of distance between my siblings and I, I quickly looked around the fourth floor and spotted a stairway leading up to a small door that opened upward.
I quickly ran up those stairs and opened the mysterious door. The door opened up into what I think was supposed to be an attic. Now I understood why the fourth floor was bigger than the rest. For an attic, it was really nice, it had lots of windows, so there was tons of natural light coming in. I looked up and saw there was a small loft area with a door leading to the roof. The room itself was very symmetrical, if you're facing the loft, it looked like both sides of the room were the same. I looked around for bit longer and I decided that I wanted this to be my room. I opened the door and started heading back down. Here's a brief layout of the new house. The first floor, there's really nothing down there. It's more of a large entryway, there's a bathroom, a coat closet, and the stairs leading up to the next floor. The second floor, kitchen and dining room. The third floor, two bedrooms and a bathroom. And the fourth floor, the master suite and living room, plus the attic.
"Damien! You knew I wanted that room! You're such a jerk!" I heard Riley yell from the stairway down on the third floor. Then I heard her quick footsteps run up the stairs and she ran into the living room. She spotted me and we made eye contact.
"I claimed this room already, so don't even think about stealing it." I said, with an authoritative tone. She glared at me with her big brown eyes for a second.
"You know mom will make us share a room, right? Either us or Damien and Justin. Wait a minute, I thought there were only three bedrooms. What room is that?" She asked as she brushed her shoulder length brown hair out of her face.
"It's the attic, it's technically not a bedroom, but I'm gonna make it one. And I guess you're right, we're gonna have to share, aren't we?" Right as Riley was about to reply, we heard my dad whistle, which in our house means he's calling everyone. Riley and I quickly ran back down to the first floor.
"Have you guys decided which rooms are whos? I know it's kind of cramped with there only being two bedrooms, not including the master." My dad asked once we all made it downstairs.
"Can Riley and I claim the attic? It would be easier for Damien and Justin, they would get their own rooms since they're bigger than us." I asked.
"The attic? Let me take a look at it first and then we'll talk." Riley and I followed my parents up to the attic and they looked around a bit. "It seems to be in really good condition. So, I don't mind if you girls claim it as your room, what do you say Danielle?" My dad said.
"It's okay with me, as long as you two share it." My mom said, Riley and I smiled and nodded. Riley and I are only a few years apart, she's 13 years old. And for the most part, we get along just fine. But, like normal siblings, we have our own disagreements.
"So, the rest of our stuff will be delivered in about a week. So, we'll be living out of our suitcase for the time being. And starting tomorrow, Damien, Justin, you guys are gonna start looking for jobs. We're going to need all the help we can get so that we can stay in this house. And Riley and Iris, we're gonna get you guys registered for the upcoming school year. School starts in a few weeks so we gotta get you ready for that." My mom said. My mom is a very organized woman, she has a schedule and is determined to get things done as quickly as she can while still doing a good job. She definitely does not waste anytime settling into this new setting. Later that night, Riley and I brought up our luggage to our new room.
"Okay Riley, I'll let you choose. Do you want the left side of the room or the right?" Honestly, I don't care which, because they're exactly the same. Riley chose the left side of the room, so I took the right. Right in the middle, there was a support beam under the loft that separated the two sides of the room. Which made it easy to establish a boundary between my side and her side. And so began my new miraculous life in Paris.
