Gracelessly I tear the letter open. Unwilling to wait for another second to discover what it has to say. My heart pounds so impossibly fast in my chest. The anticipation felt like a drug.

At the bottom is a swirly signature. I squeal like a pig and squirm down the hallway and stairs. Panting as I enter the living room Arty barely shifts in his chair. "What's up?" I search for breath because it had somehow slipped away from me in one short sprint. "I-I got in." Then for the first time, Arty pauses his game to look at me. I know he remembers how important this was for me. My obnoxious endless yammering about this internship. "Cool." He answers and immediately returns to his game.

I can't even attempt to hide the smile spreading across my face wide as the horizon. Oh. My. God. I could actually become part of YIELD. I could help save thousands of lives! I jump around the room a few times before keeling over from my lack of athleticism. Then one of the only realizations in the world that could ever remove the enormous smile plastered on my face occurs to me.

The Promise. I can't leave Arty. I can't leave Dad-I can't leave.
