Forgotten

Mermaidens were a tale even the oldest of maesters forgot. The beautiful women of the sea did not exist to the eye of man. Only stories to put small children to sleep.

In a time before even the first men arrived to Westeros, the mermaidens rested beside the children of the forest and of the giants who towered over the tallest of trees.

The sun was their shelter, the ground their beds, and the sea was their blankets. When the First Men stepped foot in Westeros a war broke out between the races until a pact was created to seal the alliance between the creatures. That pact however couldn't stop the arrival of the Andals.

They came with their iron-made weapons and claimed the land as theirs, thousands died fighting in the second war. The Children and Giants were forced back into the land of North, where they were never seen again. The Mermaidens were forced to retreat back the deepest dephs of the ocean, but even then they were hunted and killed by the rods of men.

Soon the mermaid population reduced to only dozens until eventually the mermaids became legends of the old folk.
