This story will be kind of controversial, as I will be talking about topics that are uncomfortable to some people, such as sexism and eating disorders, to name a few. Feel free to stop reading if it bothers you, but please, please, don't send any hate to other readers or myself. I just want to have fun writing about a topic that means a lot to me. I hope you all enjoy the rest of the story! -E

Alexa put on her jacket and backpack, and started out the front door.

"Bye Mom, I'm leaving!" She called out, waiting for a reply.

"Bye, Honey! Don't forget to hand in your volunteer form for the Elementary School!" said Alexa's mom.

Alexa sighed. "Fine. Goodbye now." She opened the door and left, hurrying to meet her friends.

Alexa saw her friends in the distance, scouring the streets for her.

"Claire, Lindsay! Over here!" She said, walking closer to them.

"Alexa, you made it!" Claire said.

"Hey, I wouldn't miss it for the world," Alexa said. "I need people to walk into school with so the boys don't try anything funny."

"Same, girl. Same." said Lindsay, getting out her phone and opening up Snapchat. "Hey, you two. Smile for my streaks!"

Claire and Alexa did. They both went to Lindsay to look at the picture.

"Oh my god, our faces!" said Claire. "They're hideous!"

Alexa rolled her eyes. Claire was going crazy, again. She didn't have a hideous face. In fact, it was anything but. Claire was the prettiest out of the group, but apparently, the boys at their school didn't think so. They always told her to wear more makeup, but when she did start, they said she looked like a clown. Boys in this generation, they're hypocrites. They can't make up their minds.

The point is, Claire looked amazing in the picture. Her ruby colored bob wasn't frizzy at all (lucky) and was perfectly straight. Her skin was pale, which looked nice with her hair, but it wasn't too pale, so that it would make her look like a ghost. She had freckles, like Alexa, but unlike her, Claire's had a sense of purpose. They were scattered around her nose and on her cheeks, like they were designed to be there. Alexa's, on the other hand, just laid on her face like the dead bugs on a truck's windshield wipers.

Claire was wearing a moss green shirt; she mostly wore green, blue, and black, as they matched her hair and skin tones. She also had on bright red lipstick, one of the few types of makeup that she ever wore, which matched her blue-green eyes.

"Shut up, Claire, your gorgeous." Alexa said.

The trio arrived at school and walked to their lockers. On their way over, a group of seniors started eyeing Lindsay, and then catcalled her.

Lindsay looked mortified. She started walking faster, and ran inside the girls' bathroom. That's when she broke down. She wasn't crying, not yet, but she was on the verge of tears.

"Why does this always happen to me?!" She said. "Why can't they go swoon over some other girl?"

"Lindsay, they're jerks." Alexa said. "They just want sex. As soon as they know you're not interested, they'll back off."

Although this was true, it wasn't the whole truth. Alexa knew that those boys would never stop, because she knew exactly why they were eyeing Lindsay.

It's because she's pretty.

Alexa hated to admit it, but that's the truth. Lindsay is gorgeous. With her cocoa colored skin, wavy brown hair,  big black eyes, and curves, she could be a supermodel.

"Okay," Lindsay said. "I'll try."

The three girls went to their first class of the day, chemistry, with Mr. Moore, who everyone calls Mr. Snore. They sat at their lab desks, Claire and Lindsay at one, and Alexa and Nick, her boyfriend, at another. Alexa turned to see Nick sit down, and her face lit up.

"Hey, Lexi." he said.

"Nick!" Alexa hugged him, feeling his arms wrap around her waist. "You're still coming over today, right?"

"I wouldn't miss it for the world." Nick said, winking at her.

"Ewww, guys, get a room!" Claire interrupted. Alexa faked a glare.

"Shh,  he's here!" A voice said in hushed tones, as Mr. Moore walked into the room. He had olive skin, with black hair and brown eyes, and a small but still noticeable potbelly. Today he was wearing a green collared shirt and khakis (wow so original), just like he wore every day. Mr. Moore walked to his desk and sat down.

"Good morning class," He said, in a low, monotone drawl. "Today we will be doing a lab. At your table, there is a paper with instructions on it. Read them over carefully and then begin. If you need any tools or equipment, get them from the desk in the back of the room. You will have until the end of the period, starting now." Mr. Moore grabbed a sudoku and started to work on it.

Alexa took the instructions from off her desk and turned to Nick. "Let's start reading first." She waved the paper around in her hands.

"No, it's okay. We don't need them." he said. "Let's see now, what do we have here?" he muttered to himself, forgetting about Alexa.

"We have some water, hydrogen peroxide, ooh, some sulfuric acid..." Nick started combining the chemicals at random, while Alexa sat and read the directions.

"Nick, you're supposed to add the hydrogen peroxide last!"

"Shh, I'm trying to get us an A here." he said.

"But Nick-" he looked over at Alexa.

"Do you mind? I'm trying to focus here."

"You didn't read the instructions!" said Alexa.

"I don't need instructions!" he said. "Just let me take care of the experiment, and then after, you can do the lab report, okay?"

"What?"

"You can do the lab report. You guys are better at that anyway."

"They? Who's they?" Alexa asked, understanding after a moment. "Are you seriously implying that I should write the lab report because women can't handle a simple science experiment?!" she said, incredulous.

"No, no I'm not!" Nick said. "I'm just saying that I should do the experiment because guys are better at it."

"What the hell?!" Alexa yelled out.

"Language,  Miss Ashenburg." Mr. Moore said from behind his book.

"Sorry, Mr. Moore." Alexa lowered her voice to a whisper. "Did you just say you're better at science than me because I'm a girl?! What's that all about?"

"No! I didn't say that, I just meant that you're better at taking notes and stuff!" he said.

"Why, because I'm a girl? How sexist can you be?!" Nick opened his mouth to answer, when Alexa stood up.

"You know what, don't answer that, It's clear what the answer is. And you know what else? You can go burn in hell!"

"Alexa!" said Mr. Moore. "That's enough! Detention, today!"

The class oohed.

"Shut up." Alexa said, slowly sitting down. She may have got detention, but it was worth it. No guy has the right to say that they're better at something, just because they're male, especially when it involves something like education, where each and every student has an equal opportunity.

Alexa narrowed her eyes. She would not stand for this.
