Chapter 3

“YOOHHOOO” Jack whistles “You’re really one unbelievable girl, Janny!” Jack says and drinks his vodka

“Record breaking” Jon gives me a Hi5.

I really like how they celebrate my mistakes instead of something really worth a party. They’re applauding whenever I have a detention, and celebrating my expulsion.

They’re shouting and singing and swaying (can’t say dancing). I think they’re drunk already. I sip tequila and look at them. “Guys, as promised, we will transfer at the same school, right?” Since I have a feeling that I will be kicked out again, I made an arrangement to the five of them when we entered that school.

They stop drinking and slowly look at each other’s eyes. Have they forgotten it?

“Another whisky and vodka here” Nick calls for more drinks. We are in his house today, celebrating a party for me, party for the fourth time this year I’ve been kicked out. “Would you like some champagne Janny?” Nick asks me.

“A tea perhaps?” I glare at Nick “Don’t freaking change the topic.”

“I’m going with you” Will winks at me. He stands up and excuses himself to take a call.

“I told you, I’m in” Chris sits beside me, “Maybe I can find a replacement in our soon-to-be school.” I’m relieve Chris is fine now. He scared me for a second there that he truly whole-heartedly loves Cindy.

“I will too, Janny. I’ll come along with you guys” Jack smiles at me.

“Sorry, can’t leave” Nick fills a glass of whiskey and pour it at his mouth.

What is the meaning of this? “And why is that?” I bark at him. Does he know the meaning of promise? Besides that it’s a promise, it’s a promise not meant to be broken.

“Hey, maybe because of the cute girl in the sophomore you’re after to” Jack tries to lighten the atmosphere filled with unseen bolts I’m giving to Nick.

“Jack, I’m serious” Nick says to him, “It’s because my parents wants to. I’m sorry.”

‘Of course you must be sorry’ I look at Nick’s eyes but he’s avoiding my stare, “Your parents want what?” ‘What are you - a baby who cannot decide on your own?’

“The school”

“Yes, of course. How idiot am I? Because your parents are the one who’re f---“ Chris covers my mouth when he realized I was about to curse at Nick’s house. ‘Studying so they must pick the school’ the sarcastic sentence I didn’t finish saying.

Nick raises both his eyebrows, understanding what I meant and not taking it personally. “Ptooei” I spit at Chris’ hand.

“Yuck!” Chris quickly stands up and wash his hand in the pond, “Janny, have some manners, okay?”

‘Yeah sure, bad manners’ I smile sweetly at Chris.

I wasn’t expecting Nick to just leave us like that. We promised it. We already build the friendship of us all six. But in any case, I have to understand him. His oh-so-loving parents need to be followed. So, it was me, Jack, Chris, Will and John who will transfer to other school then?

“Um...Janny?” John says in his low voice. Hearing him like that makes me sense a bad news.

“WILL!” I shout so he’ll rush to be here. I shift my look to John. I can say that he’s a bit tense. I am too, that’s why I need Will.
