Chapter 22
“What happened to your lips?” My eyes widened and I felt my face heat up. I looked at his back and saw Chris there, I won’t answer that question.
“Yes Jack, I am fine.” I gave him a sardonic smile and quickly walked pass through him. Is it that obvious? I touched my lips but I feel nothing wrong except for the thumping of my heart which reminds me of… “Oh! Hi Chris!” I didn’t see him! I decided to hide my I-don’t-know-what-it-looks-like lips to avoid the interrogation.
“Hey Janny” he greeted me while ruffling my hair.
“Are we late?” I shoved his hand away then try to fix my stubborn hair. Why is he not talking? “Hm?” I untangled some strands and looked at him, “What?”
He’s gaping at me. I pulled my eyebrows up, is there something wrong except for my hair? When I finally untangled the last strand, he spoke. “We?” We what? You and I what? I don’t understand. “And your lips…”
Totally forgot them. I bit it and covered it again with my hand. What does he mean by ‘we’? It took me five long seconds to realize! Oh crap! “Me and my car” that’s a great excuse.
“I don’t see any of your cars here.” Chris is looking in my eyes to see if I’m hiding something.
“Me and the car” or the borrowed car if he won’t still believe me, I thought.
“No” he said while shaking his head slightly, “You and who?” How did he read me? Should I tell him now? “And that” pointing to my lips, “looks…” I eyed him if he’ll say it, but he can’t
“Well-fucked” so Will said it for him. I immediately stepped backwards. Will had his hawk-eye now which means – I’m dead. He blew some smoke in the air and throw his cigarette just in front of my shoes, “Hello Janny, have you been busy doing some stuffs?”
I forced a smile, “Good to see you Will” then I stepped backwards again. At least two meters away from him, I’ll be safe. I avoided his eyes, “No, I’m not busy” I swallowed softly, “just some…” think! Think Janny! Think what to say! School works? No! Heavy Traffic? No! Crap! Crap! Crap! “Practice for the racing” I nod while staring at him hoping that’ll convince him.
He closes his eyes, “Tell me what happened” he said calmly but I know he’s just controlling his anger.
“Sorry, it’s not what you think…but it can be but we did not…But it’s just that nothing more and I didn’t know and I…I…I um…”
“You like it?” I just look at the ground while I nod. One, Two, Three, Four, Four and a half…where is it? “Bitch, aren’t you?” He lowers his head to look at me directly, “aren’t you?” I’m sorry. “Answer me!” Then he did what I’ve been waiting for. Will slapped me, “we had a deal.”
“Will!” Jack shouted and dragged Will away from me. His slapped doesn’t hurt; in fact I’m surprised Will can’t really hit me.
“Get off me!” Will shoved Jack, “You know exactly what’s next to making out, right?” I did not move my head and just stare at the ground, making out? “With who?” He’s asking me.
“Let’s deal with that later, after the race?” Chris suggested.
It was winter that night when Will and I got a little bit drunk. “You know” he said all of a sudden, “my sister is a bitch.”
Why is he telling me this? “The school bicycle?” I don’t know what's with her and the bicycle.
“Yeah” Will nods and drinks his beer
