Chapter 2—Grey's Advances
I was about thirty minutes late to class the next morning. I tried to enter the classroom discreetly, which I ended up accomplishing. However, Grey spotted me somehow. What was this guy? Did he have super senses or something?
I took a seat in the back of the lecture hall. To my surprise, Grey randomly stood up. I watched as he squeezed behind a row of desks and made his way towards me. He sat in the empty spot next to mine, and I tried not to notice. He gently elbowed me in the arm, and I glanced at him. He grinned at me, and I gave him a small smile. I quickly turned back to my notebook.
He leaned closer and whispered, "I'm sorry I ran off yesterday."
"Whatever, it's okay," I said, shrugging.
"I felt like I was being so rude by doing that. Maybe I can make it up to you, and Ren and Tammy, too."
"You don't have to."
"Please? Let me be a nice guy and make it up to you."
"That's not needed," I told him and picked up my things. I didn't feel like sitting through the rest of the lecture with Grey questioning me, so I headed for the door again. Grey followed me, which I fairly expected.
"Where are you going?" he asked, walking behind me.
"I don't know. Somewhere other than here, I guess."
"Why won't you let me take you out?"
"Why can't you take no for an answer?"
"What's the problem? Do you already have a boyfriend or something?"
I stopped walking and looked at him. I shook my head. "No."
"Are you just not into me? I mean, I'm not hideous, am I? I'm not a jerk, am I?" he inquired. As he spoke to me, he kept a smile on his face.
"You smile a lot," I observed.
"Is that a bad thing?"
I sighed. "Well, just to settle your doubts: You're not hideous and you're not a jerk. And it's definitely not a bad thing to smile."
"Good to know," he replied, satisfied. "Now, tell me, what's the problem with giving me a chance?"
"Will you feel better if I agree?"
"Of course," he admitted.
"Okay."
"Yes!" he said, grinning.
"Are you this friendly with everyone that you've just met?"
"I try to be as friendly as possible, even to my enemies," he said.
I furrowed my eyebrows. "What did you just say? Did you just call me your enemy?"
"No, I didn't mean it that way. I was just speaking in general terms."
"You have enemies?" I asked.
"Doesn't everyone? Don't you have any?"
