Chapter 8—A Confession and a Rescue {FINALE}

Three weeks…three weeks have passed since I realized that my mother definitely didn’t want anything to do with me or my father. It’s been three weeks since my father left, in search for something new, a life more peaceful.

Grey and I were moving boxes containing his stuff into my house. I didn’t want to sell it, and Grey wanted to keep me company. I was not willing to pass up any type of company; I didn’t want to feel lonely in my own home.

“I think these boxes will have to wait,” he said. “Apparently, there’s a hold-up at a bank uptown. The Raven must fulfill his duties.”

“I’ll come with you!” I offered.

“What? You want to come with me.”

“Maybe I can redeem myself if the citizens see that we’re working together.”

“I thought you were done being Zap.”

“I’m done Zap the Villain, but maybe I can be Zap the Superhero.”

“Be my guest Zap,” he said, holding out his hand.

I flew with him for the first time, his arms enveloped around me as we whooshed through the air. I felt free and weightless. As we neared the bank where the crime was taking place, people pointed at us. They looked very shocked to see us together.

We burst through the doors of the bank.

“Shit, The Raven,” one of the masked men uttered. There were two of them, armed and looking very greedy. There were people on the floor, trying to stay still, workers and patrons alike.

“Oh, wait, but Zap’s here,” the other pointed out, “You here to help us, sweetheart?”

            “Sorry boys, I’ve switched sides.”

They both held their guns towards us, but The Raven lunged at them, tackling both of them to the ground. I ran up and zapped both of them, my hands acting like my own personal tazer. They twitched a little bit and fell to the ground, dropping their guns in the process. The police outside ran in. A couple of them grabbed the hold-uppers. The hostages started standing up, one by one.

“I think everyone is wondering what’s going on here,” an officer told us.

“Yeah, since when are The Raven and Zap a tandem?” a male hostage asked.

I looked over at The Raven, and he smiled at me. He held his hand out, and we intertwined our fingers. We both shrugged and grinned at everyone who was at the scene. However, we chose to remain silent.

“A crazy world we live in,” an elderly woman said. Her raspy voice was filled with awe.

Reporters who gathered outside the bank started taking our pictures. An anchorwoman could be heard saying, “The Raven just defeated the two men who attempted a hold-up at the uptown J&R Bank. To add to that, it seems as if he’s found a new partner in an old enemy. Zap might have finally turned to the good side. Now, I think the question here is: what happened to Dr. Flame to make her change her ways?”

The Raven and I flew away from the scene. When we arrived back home, we turned on the news to find out what everyone else was thinking. People were very skeptical of my motives. Some people even called The Raven an idiot, but a majority of people found solace in the fact that Zap didn’t seem to be a threat anymore. Many, though, were still trying to figure out what happened to Dr. Flame.
