I wake up in Dylan's arms, with him calmly reassuring me. "Dylan! I'm so glad to see you." I nearly faint again with happiness.

"It's all right Lizzy. You're safe now." I breathe a sigh of relief knowing he's here with me.

Even though my head feels like a rocket went off inside it, I want to talk to Julia before the police converge on us. I'm still in shock she shot someone. I didn't even know she owned a firearm, let alone that she was a marksman. Feebly, I motion her closer to me. "How did you know I was here? I struggle weakly and try not to pass out again. "Whose gun is that?"

Kneeling down beside me, she grabs my hand, shushing me. "Don't work yourself up, Lizzy. Just lie still. Jerry told me you went down to the police station to see about my car." Julia looks over, smiling in direction of the Dresden police officer, before continuing.

"As for the gun, Harlan dropped it when he was running away from something. Luckily, I was in the car when dispatch notified Jerry over the radio that you'd been abducted. Once we arrived here, I stumbled on the gun when I was following him. That's when I picked it up."

I absorb this information slowly. Julia shot Harlan to avenge me. Although it was an illegal act of vigilante justice I'm really touched. "You talked to Jerry at the hospital?" I'm suspicious there's something she's not telling me.

"Yes, he was there when I checked out. He offered me a ride home." Still woozy from the blows to my head, I know there's something Julia is hiding from me. I feel uncomfortable with her version of events. As more police arrive, Julia discreetly puts the gun away in her jacket. Meanwhile, Jerry seems to have forgotten my grandmother's shot Dresden's lead detective dead. It's all very odd. Almost as if he is covering for her. No wait, it's more like he is protecting her. A horrible thought manifests in my mind. I try to push it back, but it's impossible to banish. No. It can't be. Could it?

How did Julia really know about Jerry's Wolf  tattoo? She would of had to have seen him shirtless. Were they lovers at one time? Lovers with a thirty year age gap? Ugh! I find this more disturbing than Harlan trying to kill me.

Laying back, I moan and close my eyes, trying to erase images of Julia and Jerry in the throes of passion. Instead, I focus on her animated explanation of how I was rescued. "Jerry put a tail on you. He's had one assigned to you since someone broke into the house and hurt me. He never believed that you or I had anything to do with Donna's accident. He was trying to flush the real perp out into the open."

The ambulance arrives, and the paramedics start to load me onto a stretcher. Dylan hobbles over to ride with me to the hospital. I tell him, "Please ask them to wait." Then weakly motion for Jerry to come over. When he leans down and puts his face close to mine, I whisper, "I wanted to say thank you, Jerry." I feel bad that I ever suspected he was the killer.

He smiles down at me, "Don't worry, Elizabeth. Everything's going to be all right. I'll make sure your grandmother gets home after she gives the department her statement. She'll be up to see you at the hospital, tomorrow." He motions for the paramedics to continue putting me in the ambulance.  As the white vehicle starts its trip back to the hospital, Dylan sits down beside me. "Lizzy, your grandmother's a real bad ass!"

"Lizzy, your grandmother's a real bad ass!"
